Doctors' responses

hello Deepa,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Based on the symptoms you’ve mentioned mild headache on the sides and near the ear area, warm sensation in the eyes, and low energy this pattern is commonly seen in Pitta-Vata imbalance in Ayurveda, often connected to mental fatigue, screen exposure, dehydration, unexpressed stress, or subtle digestive disturbances (Ama).

Even if your meals are simple and homemade, sometimes overactivity, inadequate hydration, long exposure to sunlight or screens, or unprocessed emotional stress can slowly build up internal heat and dryness, especially in people with naturally active or Pitta-dominant constitutions.

Let’s correct this gently by supporting your nervous system, eyes, and digestion.

1. Ama Pachana (First 3–4 days):

Start here to clear subtle toxins and reduce heaviness.

Jeerakarishtam – 15 ml with equal water twice daily after meals Hingvashtaka Churna – ½ tsp with warm water after lunch and dinner

2. Internal Medicines (from Day 4 onward): Saraswatarishta – 15 ml with equal water at bedtime (for nervous system and sleep support) Pathyadi Kadha (Kwath) – 15 ml with water twice a day before food (helps with headaches and eye strain) Ashwagandhadi Lehyam – 1 tsp at bedtime with warm milk or water (for strength and energy)

3. External and Lifestyle Support: Apply a drop of Ksheerabala Tailam (101) to each nostril at bedtime (nasya) for 7 days—this calms Vata, helps headache and sleep Practice nadi shodhana pranayama (10 min daily) Reduce screen exposure, especially after 8 PM Drink coriander-fennel-cumin decoction during the day (1 tsp each boiled in 2 cups water, reduce to 1 cup, sip warm)

Investigations (if not recently done): Vitamin B12 and D levels CBC Eye check-up (for strain, dryness) Thyroid profile (if persistent fatigue continues)

You’re already doing a great job by staying active and eating simple meals. These symptoms are your body’s early signals asking you to slow down and nourish it more deeply. With just a little gentle support and inner calm, you’ll find your energy and clarity returning.

Warm regards, Dr. Karthika

HELLO DEEPA,

SYMPTOMS -mild headache on the sides of the head (above/around the ears) -warm sensation in the eyes -low energy or fatigue -AGE= 45 years, generally healthy and active, good sleep and diet

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN YOUR BODY? According to Ayurveda, your symptoms point to an imbalance of two doshas -PITTA DOSHA= responsible for heat, metabolism, vision and sharpness -VATA DOSHA= responsible for movement, circulation, and nerves system

You are in the vata stage of life (after 40, vata naturally increases) Your current lifestyle may be unintentionally aggravating vata and pitta - causing -headaches (vata affecting the nervous system, pitta creating inflammation or burning) -warmth in the eyes (pitta localised in the eye area) -fatigue (vata imbalance weakening prana- life energy) This combination can be called a PITTA-VATA SHIRO ROGA (head disorder) with eye strain

TREATMENT GOALS -balance pitta and vata= cool down internal heat , stabilize nervous system and energy -nourish and rejuvinate nervous system = reduce over-sensitivity, fatigue, mental exhaustion -relieve pressure and inflammation in head and eyes= through detoxification and strengthening -support digestion and hormonal health= indirectly connected to headaches and fatigue -prevent ecurrence= by strengthening the system, and adapting lifestyle

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) MANASMITRA VATAKAM= 1 tab twice daily with warm milk in morning and night for 6 weeks =calms mind, improves memory , reduces vata in brain

2) ASHWAGANDHA CHURNA= 1 tsp at bedtime with warm milk for 8 weeks =strengthen nerves, fights fatigue, balances vata

3) TRIPHALA CHURNA= 1 tsp at night with warm water =improves digestion, detoxifies balances pitta

4) GUDUCHI CAPSULES= 1 cap daily in morning for 4 weeks =cooling immunity and energy support, pitta pacifying

5) SHIRASHULA VAJRA RASA= 1 tab when severe headache =releieves headache

EXTERNAL TREATMENTS

1) HEAD MASSAGE = WITH NEELIBRINGADI TAILA 3 TIMES/WEEK =relaxes nerves, reduces tension headache

2) NASYA= 2 drop of ANU TAILA in each nostril In morning empty stomach =clears head channels, relieves sinus pressure, improves sleep

3) NETRA SEKA(eye wash) with cooled triphala decoction or rose water daily =releieves eye heat , improves clarity

HOME REMEDIES

1) SOAKED RAISINS AND DATES -soak 5-6 raisins or 2 dates overnight and eat in morning =helps build blood and energy, cools pitta

2) CORIANDER- CARDAMOM TEA -boil 1 tsp coriander seeds + 2 crushed cardamoms in water. cool and sip =reduces eye and head heat

3) GHEE IN DIET -1 tsp daily in food or warm milk- nourishes brain and balances vata

4) FOOT MASSAGE AT BEDTIME -use sesame oil . grounds vata and improves sleep

5) COLD ROSE WATER EYE PADS -soak cotton pads in rose water and place on eyes for 10 mins. releieves warmth

LIFESTYLE MODIFICATIONS

DO -wake up and sleep at consistent times -protect your eyes from excessive screen/light exposure -take short breaks during mental work -walk barefoot on grass (calming for nerves) -maintain regular bowel movements

AVOID -skipping meals -excessive screen time or late night work -excess heat (sun exposure, spicy food, long fasting) -pverexertion or excessive talking/ stress

DIET TO BE FOLLOWED -warm, cooked foods (soups, dals, rice, boiled veggies) -cooling herbs- coriander, fennel, cardamom, mint -ghee, coconut, almonds , soaked dates/figs -buttermilk with cumin and coriander (good digestion+pitta balance)

AVOID -sour, spicy, and fermented items- pickle, vinegar, curd at night -raw salads in large quantities -tea, coffee, alcohol, fried snacks -very dry foods (biscuits, crackers)- aggravates vata

YOGA AND PRANAYAM -balasana= relieves head pressure -paschimottanasana= calms nervous system -viparita karani= relaxes brain, improves circulation -sheetali and sheetakari= cools body and mind -nadi sodhana= balances both vata and pitta -yoga nidra= deep restoration

Practice daily, even for 15 minutes. Avoid hot yoga or intense pranayam like kapalbhati

INVESTIGATIONS ADVISED -Eye check up -thyroid profile -vitamin b12 and D -cbc+esr -hormonal profile (FSH,LH)

You’re going through a natural Vata-dominant life phase(45 years), and your pitta may be slightly aggravated due to environment or lifestyle factors (heat, screen time overthinking, irregular food patterns). This combination is leading to -mild but nagging headaches -eye warmth -energy dips Ayurveda doesn’t treat just the headache- it aims to balance your entire internal system, removes the root cause, and strengthen your mind-body connection.

you can complete reverse this condition, improve your energy, and avoid further imbalances

DO FOLLOW CONSISTENTLY

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

Thank you for explaining your condition in detail. Although your headaches are mild and located on the sides above the ears, with associated warm eyes and low energy, your active lifestyle and adequate sleep are positive factors. However, these symptoms suggest a pitta–vata imbalance, possible eye strain, and low ojas (vitality). Addressing digestion, cooling pitta, nourishing the nervous system, and improving energy reserves will be key.

Recommended Investigations

1. CBC – to rule out anemia

2. Blood Pressure monitoring

3. Fasting blood sugar / HbA1c – for glucose control

4. Thyroid Profile (TSH, T3, T4)

5. Serum Vitamin B12 & Vitamin D – for nerve & energy health

6. Eye examination – to rule out strain-related headache

Internal Medicine

Starting with Ama Pachana (to improve digestion and clear toxins) – 5 days

1. Chitrakadi vati 1-0-1 with warm water before food

2. Guduchi kwath – 20 ml with 20ml of warm water twice daily before food

After 7 days, stop the above and start the following medicines:

1. Saptamrita Lauh – 1 tablet twice daily after meals with ghee + honey (equal parts)

2. Amalaki Rasayana 1-0-1 after food

3. Brahmi Ghrita – ½ tsp with warm milk in the morning

4. Ashwagandha churna – 1 tsp with warm milk at bedtime

Diet & Lifestyle Tips

Avoid:

Spicy, oily, fried foods

Prolonged screen exposure without breaks

Excess tea/coffee

Include:

Cooling foods: cucumber, ash gourd, coriander, leafy greens

Soaked almonds (4–5) in the morning

Cow’s milk with a pinch of turmeric at night

Adequate hydration with warm or room temperature water

Lifestyle:

Regular sleep–wake schedule (avoid late nights)

Screen breaks every 30–40 mins

Cooling pranayama: Sheetali or Sheetkari daily

Gentle head oil massage (coconut + bhringraj) twice a week

20–30 mins evening walk for relaxation. Follow up after 30 days

May your energy, eye comfort, and head clarity be fully restored. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for follow-up or adjustment in medicines.

At times, I am experiencing mild headache (sides, on top ear area), warm eyes and low energy.

I can provide you with some information about your symptoms, but it’s important to understand that I am an AI and not a medical professional. The symptoms you describe—a mild headache on the sides and around the ears, warm eyes, and low energy—could be related to a variety of conditions, ranging from common issues to those that require medical attention.

Possible Causes Eyestrain: Prolonged use of digital devices, reading in dim light, or driving long distances can cause eye muscles to become tired. This can lead to headaches, sore or burning eyes, and a general feeling of fatigue. The headache is often described as a dull ache behind or around the eyes and on the sides of the head. Taking breaks and adjusting your screen settings can often help.

Migraine: Migraines are more than just bad headaches; they are a neurological condition that can cause a range of symptoms. While often associated with severe, throbbing pain on one side of the head, a migraine can also manifest with milder pain. Fatigue, sensitivity to light, and eye pain are common symptoms before, during, and after an attack.

Occipital Neuralgia: This is a type of headache caused by inflammation or injury to the occipital nerves, which run from the top of the spinal cord up to the scalp. The pain is often described as piercing or throbbing and can be felt in the upper neck, the back of the head, and behind the ears. This condition can be a result of tight neck muscles, trauma, or other underlying issues.

Sinus or Ear Issues: Infections or inflammation in your sinuses or middle ear can cause referred pain to your head and around your ears. These conditions can also cause a general feeling of being unwell, including low energy.

Dehydration or Lack of Sleep: These are very common causes of headaches and low energy. Not drinking enough water can lead to a headache, and poor sleep can cause both headaches and fatigue.

At times, I am experiencing mild headache (sides, on top ear area), warm eyes and low energy. Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, views health problems as an imbalance in the body’s three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Based on your symptoms—mild headache (sides, on top ear area), warm eyes, and low energy—an Ayurvedic practitioner might consider an imbalance in your Pitta and/or Vata doshas.

Pitta Dosha Imbalance:

Symptoms: Warm eyes, headaches with a burning or shooting sensation, and a feeling of heat in the body are often linked to aggravated Pitta dosha, which is associated with the elements of fire and water. Pitta imbalances can be triggered by spicy, oily, and acidic foods, excessive heat, and stress.

Causes: Your symptoms could be related to factors that increase Pitta, such as prolonged sun exposure, stress, or consuming certain foods.

Vata Dosha Imbalance:

Symptoms: A throbbing, pulsating, or migrating headache, often accompanied by neck and shoulder tension, can be a sign of Vata dosha imbalance. Vata, associated with air and space, governs movement and the nervous system. Low energy or fatigue can also be a symptom of imbalanced Vata.

Causes: Stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, and an irregular eating schedule can all aggravate Vata.

Here are some general Ayurvedic approaches that might help manage your symptoms. However, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized diagnosis and treatment plan, as self-treating can be risky.

1. Diet and Lifestyle Modifications:

Pacify Pitta:

Favor cooling foods like cucumbers, melons, leafy greens, and coconut water.

Avoid spicy, sour, and fermented foods, as well as excessive salt.

Incorporate cooling herbs like coriander and mint into your diet.

Pacify Vata:

Eat warm, cooked, and moist foods like soups, stews, and cooked grains.

Maintain a regular meal schedule and avoid skipping meals.

Drink warm water throughout the day.

General recommendations:

Ensure you get adequate and regular sleep (7-8 hours per night).

Stay well-hydrated.

Manage stress through practices like meditation and deep breathing (Pranayama).

Limit screen time to reduce eye strain.

2. Herbal Remedies and Practices:

For Headaches:

Herbal Pastes: Applying a cooling paste of sandalwood or turmeric to the temples can help with Pitta-type headaches.

Ginger: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. You can drink ginger tea or apply a paste of ginger powder and water to your forehead.

Herbal Oils: Massaging your head, neck, and shoulders with warm coconut oil can help calm both Vata and Pitta doshas.

For Warm Eyes:

Triphala Eye Wash: Triphala is a classic Ayurvedic blend for eye health. You can make an eyewash by soaking Triphala powder in water overnight, straining it, and using the liquid to rinse your eyes in the morning.

Rose Water: Placing cotton pads soaked in pure rose water over your closed eyes can provide a cooling and soothing effect.

Ghee: In some cases, applying a drop of plain, warm ghee (clarified butter) to the inner corners of your eyes before bed is recommended for soothing dryness and heat.

For Low Energy:

Ashwagandha: This adaptogenic herb is known for its ability to help the body manage stress and boost energy.

Brahmi: Brahmi can help calm the nervous system and improve cognitive function, which can be beneficial for stress-related low energy.

Treatment

1) shirashooladi vajra rasa-250 mg after food 3 times a day

2) soothsekhar rasa - 2 times a day (keep the tablet below your tongue)

3 ) Brahmi tail - head massage

Your symptoms could be assocites with an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism in the body. A mild headache particularly around the temples or the ear region along with warm eyes, may suggest excess pitta accumulating, which can manifest as heat or inflammation.

Firstly, cooling dietary choices could help pacify Pitta. Emphasize on foods that are naturally cooling, such as cucumbers, melons, and leafy greens. Avoid spicy, oily, and fried foods as they might aggravate symptoms. Try to include ghee in your meals, as it can cool down internal heat, support digestion and it’s grounding. Drink plenty of fluids but lean towards room temperature water or herbal teas like coriander, fennel, or spearmint which can soothe pitta.

In terms of lifestyle adjustments, consider practicing a regular routine of yoga and pranayama to help balance pitta. Focus on cooling practices such as alternative nostril breathing (nadi shodhana) or Sheetali pranyama. These exercises can help reduce the body heat and calm an active mind.

For your warm eyes, try eye exercises or gently splash your eyes with cool water throughout the day. A few drops of rose water might be beneficial to cool and relax the eyes. You might also try Triphala in the evening before bed - it supports digestion and can also aid to cleanse and rejuvenate the body.

If you are feeling consistently low energy, consider utilizing ashwagandha which can strengthen the body’s vital reserves, however, consult with your local practitioner first to ensure it is suitable for your specific constitution and current health state.

Listen to your body’s signals and adjustments should be tailored to your unique response. If symptoms persist or worsen, or if they cause significant discomfort, it may be important to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying conditions that might require medical attention. Your health is paramount and thorough investigation of persistent symptoms is a responsible step.

Based on your description, the mild headache around the sides and near the top of the ears, warm eyes, and low energy might be signs of a subtle imbalance related to Pitta dosha. Pitta governs heat, digestion, and metabolism in our body, and its excess can manifest through symptoms like headaches and ocular discomfort. Your active lifestyle and simple vegetarian diet are positive; however, Pitta might be heightened due to factors like stress, excessive heat exposure, or spicy food consumption.

First, let’s consider some dietary adjustments. Favor cooling foods such as cucumber, watermelon, and salads with coconut. Reduce intake of spicy, sour, and fried items which may aggravate Pitta. Hydration is essential; sip on water infused with a few fresh mint leaves throughout the day to aid in cooling down.

In terms of lifestyle, you can modify your walking pattern a bit. Early morning or evening walks when temperatures are lower would be more soothing. Gentle yoga practices that include forward bends can also help alleviate tension from the head region and promote relaxation.

For the warm eyes, try applying cotton pads soaked in rose water over your closed eyes for about 10 minutes. This can soothe heat-related discomfort. Also, ensure you’re not straining your eyes with too much screen time, and ensure good lighting while reading.

Weekly oil massage (Abhyanga) using coconut oil can help calm Pitta and support overall energy levels. Along with that, consider using the recommended Siddha herbs like Triphala for eye health and Brahmi for calming effects. They’re traditionally known to balance Pitta and can be helpful in maintaining mental clarity and reducing mild headaches.

However, if these mild symptoms persist or worsen, deeper underlying causes should be explored. A consultation with an Ayurvedic practitioner would then be beneficial, as they can provide a more tailored approach. Be mindful to seek immediate medical care if your headaches become severe or are accompanied by other unusual symptoms.
