HELLO JALMEEN,

-You have type 2 diabetes, which in Ayurveda is called Madhumeha and falls under Prameha -Ayurveda says it happen when Kapha dosha (heaviness, excess), combined with pitta and vata imbalance, weakens digestion (agni)-> unprocessed nutrients circulate in the body-> fat, muscle, and tissue metabolism become disturbed -> excess sugar leaks into urine and blood -Over time, body tissues (dhatus) get depleted (Ojas kshaya), causing fatigue, nerve issues, eye changes, kidney strain -In your case, since HbA1c is high and you had ketosis, it means the disease has advanced but it is still manageable with combined care

TREATMENT GOALS -Immediae goal = bring blood sugar under control while preventing hypoglycemia -Medium term goal= improve digestion and metabolism , reduce insulin resistance, gradually reduce insulin needs -Long term goal= prevent complications (eye, kidney, nerve), strengthen immunity and vitality (Ojas), bring sugars close to normal with minimum medicine.

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) NISHAMALAKI CHURNA TABLET= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =improves liver function, reduces sugar, antioxidant, prevents complications

2) GUDMAR CAPSULES= 500mg cap twice daily before meals =called “sugar destroyer” , reduces sugar absorption, regenerates pancreas to some extent

3) CHANDRAPRABHA VATI= 2 tabs twice daily after meals =regulates urinary system, balances metabolism, reduces fatigue

4) SHILAJIT CAPSULES= 1 cap 500mg once daily with milk =rasayana, strengthens tissues, improves stamina

5) MADHUMEHANTAK CHURNA= 1 tsp with warm water twice daily =comprehensive diabetes formulation targeting pancreas, liver and fat metabolism

DURATION= 3-6 months, continuously

LIFESTYLE CHANGES -daily exercise= brisk walk 30-45 min -avoid daytime sleep it worsens kapha and sugar -maintain light body weight -proper sleep= 10pm-6am -stress management= meditation, chanting, journaling

YOGA ASANAS -Ardha matsyendrasana -Vajrasana after meals for digestion -Trikonasana -Paschimottanasana -Surya namaskar= 12 rounds start with 3 increase slowly

PRANAYAM (10-15 min daily) -Kapalbhati -Anulom vilom -Bhastrika -Bhramari

DIET Grains= barley, foxtail millet, little millet, green gram, horse gram Vegetables= bitter gourd, ridge gourd, snake gourd, leafy greens Fruits= amla, jamun, guava, papaya, apple Spices= turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger Others= buttermilk, warm water

AVOID -wheat breads, white rice, refined flour, bakery foods -potatoes, sweet potato, yam, colocasia -dairy products especially curd, cheese, panner -sweers, packaged juices, alcohol

HOME REMEDIES -Fenugreek seeds= soak. 1 tsp overnight, chew in morning -Bitter gourd juice= 30 ml on empty stomach 3-4 times a week -Neem leaf powder= 2 gm with warm water

INVESTIGATIONS -Blood sugar= daily/alternalte day initially - fasting and post prandial -HbA1c-> every 3 months -Kidney function test-> every 6 months -Liver function test-> yearly -Eye checkup-> yearly -Foot exam-> yearly

-Your diabetes is serious but not irreversible -Ayurveda focuses on removing the root cause, improving digestion, and preventing complications -Combination of insulin + ayurveda + lifestyle changes will help you gradually reduce medicine dependence -Never stop insulin sudenly- let your sugar reading guide you -Be consistent- results show in 3-6 months, but long term commitment brings real reversal

DO FOLLOW

HOPE THIS MIGHT BE HELPFUL

THANK YOU

DR. MAITRI ACHARYA

Managing Type 2 diabetes through Ayurveda requires a comprehensive approach, intertwining dietary adjustments, lifestyle modifications, and herbal support, all while prioritizing safety given your previous episodes. Firstly, continue to work closely with your healthcare provider, especially considering past episodes of ketoacidosis and the need for insulin. Transitioning away from insulin without medical supervision can be risky.

Begin with Ayurvedic dietary insights. Your millet-based diet is a good start, emphasizing low glycemic index foods that help stabilize blood sugar levels, while cooked green leafy vegetables, bitter gourd and fenugreek seeds are beneficial. Include these into your meals, while focusing on portion control. Favor home-cooked meals over processed foods, with regular meal intervals to keep blood sugar stable.

Herbal support can aid in managing your condition. Gymnema Sylvestre (‘Gurmar’) is known in Ayurveda for it’s role in sugar metabolism. A regulated intake, around 500 mg twice daily with meals, can assist in controlling blood sugar. Additionally, Triphala, a classical combination of three fruits, supports digestion and can be taken at bedtime in the form of a powder – roughly 1 teaspoon mixed with warm water.

Lifestyle adjustments are equally crucial. Engage in daily moderate exercise like a brisk walk for 30 mins, yoga or Pranayama, as this enhances insulin sensitivity and lowers stress, which can affect glucose levels. Maintaining a steady routine, with adequate rest and avoiding late nights, supports your body’s natural rhythm.

Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels remains essential. Keep a detailed log, track fluctuations, and share updates with your healthcare professional to fine-tune your transition from insulin-based management.

Lastly, consider regular Panchakarma detoxification under guidance from a qualified practitioner to manage imbalances and promote overall well-being, all while closely communicating with your diabetic care team to ensure a safe, holistic transition.

No worries you can start medicine for diabetes but it doesn’t mean that you have to stop allopathic medicine, gradually we can taper the dose of insulin and slowly we can stop , but along with diet and medicine most important thing is walking, you have to walk atleast for 45 minutes daily then only you can see improvement in your Hba1c Can start on Madhunashini vati -one tablet to be chew half an hour before food Ashwagandha cap -one tablet to be taken at night with warm water Take half tsp dried jamun powder in warm water Take 1/4 th tsp over night soaked methi on empty stomach

A shift to Ayurvedic approaches for managing Type 2 diabetes requires careful consideration, especially given your history with ketosis and current insulin dependence. While Ayurveda can support holistic health, immediate medication changes without professional supervision can be risky. Keep regular consultations with your healthcare provider as you integrate Ayurvedic practices alongside your existing regimen.

Start by considering your dosha balance. Type 2 diabetes in Ayurveda is often linked to imbalances in kapha dosha. To address this, look at incorporating bitter and astringent tastes more regularly in your diet—they can help balance kapha. Bitter gourd juice (karela) taken in the morning may assist with blood sugar control. Cooked fenugreek seeds or Trigonella foenum-graecum could also be beneficial, around a teaspoon steeped in hot water, taken twice a day.

Digestive health is crucial; check your agni (digestive fire). Ensure meals are light, warm, and easy to digest, which helps improve metabolism. Triphala can be supportive in cleansing and strengthening the digestive tract. You can take one teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water before bed.

A daily routine that includes regular moderate exercise, such as brisk walking for 30 minutes, can stimulate metabolism and balance insulin sensitivity. Practice Pranayama and meditation for stress management, which directly impacts blood glucose levels.

Monitor blood sugar levels closely and adjust treatments under healthcare supervision. It’s crucial to keep your medical team informed and involved when adopting any new therapies. Adjusting Ayurvedic methods alongside allopathic treatments needs cautious steps. Always prioritize professional advice to avoid any adverse events.
