shilajit or ashwagandha which is better for testosterone - #37347

I am totally confused about my testosterone levels and don’t know which one to go for, shilajit or ashwagandha, which is better for testosterone? A few months ago, I started feeling super tired all the time, lacking energy even after a good night's sleep. Went to the doc and they did some lab tests and turns out my testosterone levels are lower than normal. 😩 I’ve heard that both shilajit and ashwagandha are supposed to help with this kind of stuff, but I just can’t seem to figure out which is better for testosterone. My cousin swears by shilajit, says it’s like magic for energy and boosting levels, but I read some articles that say ashwagandha is the way to go, especially for stress too, which might be a part of my issue. I've been trying to take the right supplements and, honestly, I get nervous about all the options. I do want to try something natural, but switching from one to another feels like a gamble. Can you guys, who’ve probably seen more of these situations, help me decide? Is shilajit or ashwagandha which is better for testosterone, and can I take both together? I’m just kinda lost here, any insights would be super appreciated!!!

When it comes to boosting testosterone levels through Ayurveda, both shilajit and ashwagandha are indeed highly regarded, though they function a bit diferently in the body. Shilajit, known in Ayurveda as a mineral-rich substance (a ‘Rasayana’), has been traditionally used for enhancing stamina, strength, and vitality. It is credited with the ability to boost testosterone levels, possibly due to its high content of fulvic acid and minerals like selenium, which play an important role in hormonal health. In contrast, ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb, helps in reducing stress and anxiety, which can indirectly support testosterone production. Stress is a known factor that can lower testosterone levels, and ashwagandha’s cortisol-reducing properties might benefit your situation by addressing one of the root causes.

It’s important to personalize your choices based on your individual constitution (prakriti) and current imbalances (vikriti). If you’re dealing with significant stress and feel mentally fatigued, ashwagandha might be the right fit as it targets stress-related hormonal imbalance. However, if you’re looking to directly increase energy and endurance, shilajit may be more suited.

About taking both together – Yes, it’s generally safe to take shilajit and ashwagandha in combination, but it’s best to do so under the guidance of an Ayurvedic physician, considering your unique dosha constitution and specific health conditions.

For practical use, consider starting with a quality-source ashwagandha supplement, around 500mg per day, preferably after meals, if stress reduction and mental clarity are your priorities. If you opt for shilajit, ensure its purity and authenticity, consuming a small pea-sized portion, typically mixed in water or milk once a day. To maximize benefits, keep your lifestyle aligned with Ayurvedic principles – focus on a balanced diet, regular morning routine including warm water or herbal teas, and incorporate light exercise or yoga, which can further support testosterone levels.

In this journey, recall that Ayurveda emphasizes holistic health, so addressing lifestyle factors is as crucial as the herbal supplements themselves.

If you’re considering natural ways to support your testosterone levels, both shilajit and ashwagandha are interesting options, each with their own merits. In the framework of Ayurvedic and Siddha medicine, it’s important to consider your unique constitution—your dosha balance and any underlying imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Shilajit is known for its mineral-rich content—fulvic acid being one of the most prominent—and is traditionally used to enhance vigor, strength, and energy, making it highly beneficial for kapha and vata imbalances. People with these imbalances or lower testosterone might find shilajit particularly invigorating, as it can improve stamina and vitality over time. To use shilajit, you’d typically start with a small pea-sized amount, mixed with warm water or milk, taken once a day, usually in the morning to improve energy levels throughout the day.

Ashwagandha, on the other hand, is an adaptogen, which may help the body manage stress by modulating cortisol levels. Excessive stress is often linked to hormonal imbalances, so if your low testosterone is stress-related, ashwagandha might have an edge. It tends to suit vata and pitta dosha types well, as its calming effect can stabilize energy and encourage restful sleep. Ashwagandha is often taken as a powder or capsule, with doses around 300-600 mg daily, generally taken in the evening due to its calming properties.

If you’re considering using both, it can be done under professional guidance, but it’s essential to tailor the usage to your needs and monitor how your body responds. Each herb affects people differently, and it may take some experimentation to find the right balance or combination for your body. To do so safely, it would be best to consult with a practitioner experienced in Ayurvedic or Siddha medicine who can provide you personalized guidance based on your full health profile.

Remember, while these herbs can support natural health improvements, they should not be used as substitutes for medical treatment when necessary. If your low testosterone significantly impacts your health, keep your doctor informed about all supplements or interventions you’re considering.
