Doctors' responses

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.

I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.

In Ayurveda, the imbalance of Apana Vayu, which governs the downward movement in the body, can lead to issues like irregular bowel movements and unformed stools. This is often linked with Vata dosha disturbances, characterized by irregularity and dryness.

Your mention of Pitta imbalance suggests an excess of heat and acidity in the body, which can lead to digestive discomfort. When Pitta and Vata are both imbalanced, it can create a complex scenario where the digestive fire (Agni) is disturbed, leading to symptoms like gurgling sounds and changes in stool consistency.

The use of Dadimashtaka, which is traditionally known for its digestive benefits, may support in balancing these issues. However, the reaction you experience with warm water indicates that the method of consumption might be influencing your symptoms.

Ayurveda sees your symptoms as interconnected, originating from a systemic imbalance rather than isolated issues. The interplay between Vata’s irregularity and Pitta’s heat requires a tailored approach to restore harmony.

To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.

Please answer each question as clearly as possible.

1. How long have you been experiencing issues with Apana Vayu? Please specify if it’s less than 1 week, 1-4 weeks, 1-6 months, or more than 6 months. 2. How would you describe the consistency of your stools currently? Are they well-formed and regular, soft but not watery, loose or watery, or do you experience constipation? 3. What other symptoms accompany your unformed motion? Do you experience bloating or gas, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea, or fatigue? 4. How often do you have bowel movements? Is it 1-2 times a day, every other day, 3-4 times a week, or less than 3 times a week? 5. Have you made any dietary changes recently? Indicate if you’ve changed your diet significantly, made only minor changes, kept it the same, or if you’re not sure. 6. How do you typically feel after taking Dadimashtaka? Do you feel relieved and comfortable, experience gurgling and bloating, notice no change, or find that symptoms worsen? 7. What is your usual diet like? Is it high in spicy foods, rich in dairy and fats, balanced with fruits and vegetables, or does it consist of highly processed or fast food?

Your detailed responses will help in crafting a more personalized and effective treatment approach.

Facing dry skin problem with rosacea type redness on cheeks.Actually earlier i was having all sorts of digestion problem, acidity, bloating, heaviness, loose stools, constipation. So i took yesterday only mong dal with chitrakadi vati & dadimashtaka so now all digestion problem is gone but motion is still loose.Appetite is good, bloating & everything gone.Dry skin also reduced but still littledryness left. Also reddess on cheeks is reduced but still little bit reddness is there. Now i am taking normal food not mong dal bcoz mong dal is causing dry mouth, body aches & light headedness also hunger in every 10 minutes.Pls tell what happened & what to do for skin & motion now.Currently only taking dadimashtaka & chitrakadi vati

In Ayurveda, managing Apana Vayu imbalance alongside Pitta issues is a delicate balancing act. While Apana Vayu governs the downward flow of energy (bowel movements, urination, menstruation), its vitiation often leads to bloating, constipation, or erratic elimination. When Pitta is also involved, you likely experience acidity, a burning sensation during bowel movements, or inflammation in the lower GI tract. The Ayurvedic Perspective Vata-Pitta Samana: Dadimashtaka Churna is an excellent choice here because its primary ingredient, Dadima (Pomegranate), is “Tridoshara”—it balances all three doshas. Unlike other digestive stimulants that are too heating (like Trikatu), Pomegranate is “Hridya” (pleasing to the heart/mind) and “Grahi” (absorbent without being overly drying). Deepana-Pachana: It kindles the digestive fire (Agni) to treat Ama (toxins) without aggravating the “Ushna” (heat) of Pitta. Anulomana: It helps regulate the downward movement of Apana Vayu, resolving the “Vibandha” (constriction) or “Grahani” (malabsorption) that causes gas and discomfort. How to Take Dadimashtaka Churna (Specific to Pitta) Since you have Pitta issues, the Anupana (vehicle) is crucial to buffer the heating effects of the spices like ginger and pepper found in the powder. The Best Vehicle: Take it with Pomegranate juice or Buttermilk (Takra) that is made from fresh curd and diluted with water (1 part curd to 3 parts water). If there is significant burning or acidity, take it with a teaspoon of Ghee. The Dose: 3 to 5 grams (approximately 1 level teaspoon). The Timing: Take it twice daily, about 20 to 30 minutes after food. Taking it after meals specifically helps the “Samana Vayu” digest the food and the “Apana Vayu” move the waste effectively. Suggested Management from Kerala Ayurveda To complement the Dadimashtaka and specifically address the Pitta-Vata crossover, these Kerala Ayurveda formulations are highly effective: 1. Dadimashtaka Churna (Kerala Ayurveda Variant) This version is finely processed and balanced to ensure it doesn’t cause “Daha” (burning sensation). Dose: 5g mixed with a little warm water or buttermilk twice daily after meals. 2. Alsactil Tablet Since you mentioned Pitta issues, this proprietary tablet is designed to heal the mucosal lining of the stomach and intestines. it prevents the Dadimashtaka spices from irritating a sensitive Pitta-type gut. Dose: 1 to 2 tablets twice daily, taken 30 minutes before food. 3. Dhanwantharam Gulika This is a “Vata-anulomaka” tablet that is very gentle. It ensures that the gas and bloating caused by the Apana Vayu imbalance are cleared without the use of harsh laxatives. Dose: 1 tablet crushed and mixed with a little cumin water (Jeeraka Jala) once or twice a day. 4. Kalyanaka Ghritham For long-term Apana Vayu and Pitta balance, medicated ghee is the gold standard. It provides the “Sneha” (lubrication) that Vata needs and the “Sheeta” (cooling) quality that Pitta requires. Dose: 1 teaspoon (5ml) with warm water on an empty stomach in the morning. Practical Clinical Tips The Cumin Water Trick: Boil a liter of water with a teaspoon of Cumin seeds. Sip this throughout the day. Cumin is “Pitta-shamaka” (cools Pitta) but helps “Vata-anulomana” (moves Vata downward). Avoid “Amla” and “Vidahi”: Stay away from fermented foods (like pickles or stale curd), excessive chilies, and caffeine, as these will trigger the Pitta and cause the Apana Vayu to become “Ushna,” leading to urgency or burning. Basti Consideration: Given your BAMS background, you know that Apana Vayu’s “Moola Sthana” is the colon. If the imbalance is chronic, a mild Matra Basti with Dhanwantharam Thailam or Pinda Thailam (if Pitta is very high) would provide more direct relief than oral medicine alone.

It sounds like you have successfully cleared the Aama (metabolic toxins) that was causing your bloating and heaviness, but the treatment has slightly overshot the mark, leading to an increase in Vata and Pitta. Chitrakadi Vati & Dadimashtaka: These are highly “Ushna” (hot) and “Teekshna” (piercing). They were perfect for your bloating, but now that the “blockage” is gone, they are increasing the heat in your blood (Rakta Pitta), which is manifesting as rosacea-type redness on your cheeks. The Loose Motion: This is likely “Pitta Atisara” (heat-induced diarrhea) caused by the heat of the herbs, rather than the “Aama” (indigestion) you had before. What to do for Digestion & Motion You need to transition from “Deepana-Pachana” (burning toxins) to “Grahi” (absorbent but not hot) and “Pittashamana” (cooling). Stop Chitrakadi Vati: It is too hot for you right now. Your appetite is already strong, so you don’t need to stimulate it further. Continue Dadimashtaka: It is helpful for loose motions, but take it with Buttermilk (Takra) made with a little roasted cumin and ginger powder. Introduce Kutajghan Vati: Take 2 tablets twice a day after food. This will bind the stool without causing constipation or increasing heat. And stop when loose motion cures. Instead of plain mung dal, switch to Rice Gruel (Peya) or Khichdi made with more rice than dal, adding a teaspoon of Cow Ghee. The ghee will stop the dry mouth and body aches immediately. What to do for the Skin (Rosacea & Dryness) The redness on your cheeks is internal heat traveling to the face. Internal Cooling (Raktha Prasadana): Sarivadyasava: Take 20ml with equal water twice a day after meals. Sariva (Anantmool) is the best herb for rosacea-type redness and skin dryness caused by heat. Kamadudha Rasa (with Mouktika): Take 1 tablet twice a day. This is an excellent Ayurvedic antacid that cools the “Pitta” in the blood. External Care: Do not use hot water on your face. Apply Shatadhauta Ghrita (100-times washed ghee) on your cheeks at night. It is the gold standard for rosacea and dryness. If you don’t have it, plain cold fresh butter or coconut oil will work. So now you start… Morning: 2 tablets Kutajghan Vati + 1 tablet Kamadudha Rasa. Afternoon/Night: 20ml Sarivadyasava after food. Food: Use plenty of Cow Ghee. Avoid spicy, salty, and fermented foods (curd, pickles) for 3 days.

Dadimastak churan with pitta problem best is to take with cow’s ghee. 1tsp. Twice after food with water. You can add Vilvadi pills 1-0- 1 after food with water. Avoid wheat and wheat products Take buttermilk with pinch of asafoetida black salt and roasted jeera powder after lunch. Also Heposem syrup 10ml twice daily after food with water will help improve digestion issues Recommended medication for you are attached here, you can buy with 10% discount. Follow up after 21 days.

Digestion improved Now slight heat + dryness → causing loose motion, dry skin, redness Do this Stop Chitrakadi vati Continue Dadimashtaka Add Kutajghan vati (if needed) Eat rice + dal + ghee Take buttermilk For skin 1 tsp ghee daily Kukumadhitail external application

Your condition is Apana vata imbalance with mild pitta. Since your motion is improving with Dadimashtaka, it is suiting you. Gurgling sound is due to active digestion, not a problem if stools are formed. Do this: Take Dadimashtaka churna 3 grams twice daily Take it after food Best way in your case: Mix with 1/2 tsp ghee + little warm water and take (Do not take only with plain warm water as it increases gurgling) Diet: Eat warm, simple food Prefer rice, moong dal, khichdi, curd (daytime), buttermilk Avoid very spicy, sour, and fried food Add 1 tsp ghee daily in meals Lifestyle: Eat at fixed times Do not suppress natural urges Manage stress (important for apana vayu) If bloating is more: Add Hingwashtak churna 1/4 tsp with first bite of food Continue this regularly. It will balance motion and reduce gas gradually. For personalised diet correction and long-term balance, you can consult me.

If you could please note down your current symptoms and period of appearance it would be more easy to elaborate. Also can you tell me from when you are taking chitrakadi and its dose

Condition you describe above is due to vata pitta Dushti n digestive track The gargling sound you mention due to the heat of the water combined with the digestive kindling her might be slightly aggravating the Pitta or moving trapped vara too quickly If you take this Churna with ghee it is Highly Effective because the heat of Pitta and also calms the vata How to take?? You can take one teaspoon powder with one teaspoon of cow ghee twice a day after meal But if this condition persist after doing this also you can also follow this 1) kutaja avaleh - one teaspoon twice daily after food 2) bilwadi keha- one teaspoon twice daily 3) mustakarishta- 15 ml with equal water after food Include butter milk with Pinch of roasted jeera and sendha namak drink this with lunch White raw salads caffeine and extremely spicy or fermented food

As your initial digestive distress (bloating/heaviness) has subsided, the current complaints of dry mouth, body aches, lightheadedness, and hunger every 10 minutes your Agni (digestive fire) has become too sharp , likely due to the heat of the medicines or an underlying Pitta-Vata imbalance. The “loose motions” remaining indicate that while the food is being digested, it is not being absorbed properly, and the body is becoming dehydrated or depleted. So we will focus on soothing the gut lining and balancing the pitta bata 1) kalyanaka ghritam- 1 tsp with Luke warm water empty stomach morning 2) dadimadi ghrita-1tsp mixed with rice after lunch 3) mustarishtam- 15 ml with 15 ml water after food twice daily 4) sarivadyasava -20 ml with 20 ml water evening 5 pm Stop Chitrakadi Vati: This is very Ushna(hot) and Teekshna (sharp). It is likely the cause of the dry mouth and excessive hunger. Continue Dadimashtaka: But only with thick buttermilk or pomegranate juice to keep it cooling. Hunger every 10 Minute This is “False Hunger” caused by high Pitta/Acidity. Instead of eating a full meal every time, sip on Tender Coconut Water or Fennel (Saunf) water. Amla Candy or fresh Amla juice with a little honey can also help stabilize this sharp fire. Switch from Moong Dal te Rise Gruel (Kanji): Use red rice (Matta) or white rice cooked with a little extra water, Add a pinch of dry ginger (Sunthi) but avoid green chillies or black pepper for now Taking 50ml of fresh pomegranate juice twice a day will help bind the stool naturally The body aches are a sign of Vata aggravation due to the loose motions (dehydration). For this use Dhanvantaram oil full body massage with warm oil 30 min before bath

Yes, taking it with pure Cow’s Ghee is the perfect solution. The gurgling sound (Antrakujana) happens because warm water alone does not provide enough lubrication to ground the hyperactive Apana Vata. While Dadimashtaka is successfully binding your stool, its dry and astringent nature is slightly aggravating the wind in your gut. Pure Cow’s Ghee is Snigdha (lubricating) and Sheeta (cooling). It will perfectly pacify both your Pitta heat and the Vata gas, allowing the medicine to work without causing bloating or sounds. ✓Method: Mix your usual dose (1/2 to 1 teaspoon) of Dadimashtaka Churna with 1 teaspoon of warm, melted Cow’s Ghee to make a soft paste. ✓Timing (Apana Kala) When to take: For lower gut (Apana) issues, the medicine must be taken immediately before meals (lunch and dinner), or mixed with the very first morsel of your warm food. Follow-up: Swallow the paste, and you may take just 2-3 sips of warm water to wash it down. ✓Crucial Dietary Rule Since you have had unformed stools and Pitta-Vata imbalance for over 6 months, your digestive fire (Grahani) is highly sensitive. Even though your diet is balanced with fruits and vegetables, you must strictly avoid eating them raw. Raw foods drastically increase gas and gurgling. Always steam, boil, or cook your vegetables with a little cumin (Jeera) to make them Vata-friendly. Regards Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

Just continue the medicines for at least 7 days. Your symptoms will pacify. And taje chitrakadi vati for 3-4 days more and stop it. Continue only Dadimashtak
