How to replace PPIs for GERD caused by Hiatus Hernia with Ayurvedic medicines? - #53467

I am suffering from Gerd/Acid Reflux caused due to presence of Hiatus Hernia. I have been taking Neksium and other PPIs since last 5 years.Is there any way i can replace these PPIs with ayurvedic medicines ?

Hello For GERD issue u can start with Patolakaturohini kashayam 20 ml twice a day after food Avipattikara churna half teaspoon with warm water twice a day before food These medicines will help u to get rid of pitta issue Avoid all sour, spicy food articles Take more of bitter vegetables like bitter gourd, ash gourd, bottle gourd raddish etc in ur diet Thank you

Hiatus hernia structural problem So you cannot fully replace PPIs, but you can reduce them slowly Take Avipattikar churna 1 tsp after food, 2 times Kamdudha ras 1 tablet 2 times Yashtimadhu powder ½ tsp with milk, 2 times Eat small meals Don’t lie down after food Early dinner Avoid spicy, tea, coffee Don’t stop Nexium suddenly Reduce slowly with doctor advice

For managing your condition we have to focus on pacifying Pitta dosa and also vata to manage your physical fresher and displacement associated with hernia 1) Alsactil tablet- 1 tablet 30 minute before meal with warm water 2) sukumaram kwath- 15 ml with 45 ml water early morning and evening on empty stomach 3) avipathi churna- 3 gram at bed time with warm water 4) Dhanwantaram gulika- 1 tablet twice daily 5) amruthotharam kashayam- 15 ml mix with 45 ml water before food in morning and night 👇👇👇👇👇👇 Avoid bending forward immediately after eating. Keep your head elevated by 6-8 inches while sleeping using a wedge pillow (do not just use extra head pillows as this can increase abdominal pressure). PPIs work by reducing acid production, so they control symptoms but don’t fix the root cause. In hiatus hernia, the stomach position and LES valve weakness are mechanical problems—so reflux tends to persist. GERD with hiatus hernia is a structural as well as functional issue, so the goal is to reduce acid irritation and improve digestion, not just suppress acid completely like PPIs do. It is usually not advisable to suddenly stop PPIs, especially after long-term use. A gradual reduction along with supportive Ayurvedic medicines is a safer approach. Focus on strict routine. Avoid overeating, late meals, and lying down immediately after food. Keep dinner light and at least 2–3 hours before sleep. Avoid spicy, fried, sour foods, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. Elevating the head end while sleeping will also help reduce reflux. Eat in small, frequent meals rather than large portions. Maintaining healthy weight and avoiding tight clothing around the abdomen is important. At home, you can take cold milk in small quantity when there is burning. Jeera and coriander water during the day can help digestion. Avoid very hot and very cold foods. Avipattikar tablets – 1 tablet twice daily before food Kamdudha ras (moti yukta) – 1 tablet twice daily after food Yashtimadhu (licorice) tablet – 1 tablet twice daily These help in reducing acidity, soothing the stomach lining, and balancing Pitta. Start Ayurvedic medicines while continuing your current PPI, then gradually taper the PPI under guidance depending on symptom control.
