If you have a sensitive digestive system, it is correct to be cautious, as some medicines (especially those with mild laxative or cleansing action) can cause loose motions in certain people. Without knowing the exact medicine, the safest approach is: Start with a low dose first and observe your body for 2–3 days. If there is no discomfort, you can gradually continue. Always take the medicine after food (if suitable) to reduce irritation on the gut. Avoid taking it on an empty stomach unless specifically advised. At home: Keep your diet simple and warm while starting any new medicine. You can take a little jeera water to support digestion. Start with ½ dose initially Then increase to full dose if tolerated If you notice loose motions, abdominal discomfort, or urgency, stop the medicine and reassess. This gradual approach helps you safely understand whether it suits your system. Regards, Dr Raghuveer (Ayurvedacharya)

Hello, In Ayurveda, loose motions caused by medicine usually happen because the substance is too Ushna (hot) or Teekshna (sharp/penetrating). These qualities aggravate Pitta and Vata in the gut, leading to increased motility. These often disrupt the “Agni” (digestive fire) and gut flora. Medicines containing heavy doses of black pepper, ginger, or minerals like purified sulfur can be too intense for a sensitive lining. If a medicine causes heartburn or a “hot” feeling in the stomach shortly after taking it, it is likely to cause loose motions later. From the Ayurveda perspective, your condition is often seen as a weakness of the Grahani (the small intestine/duodenum). When the digestive fire is flickering, it cannot “hold” or transform the medicine properly, so the body flushes it out as liquid waste. To prevent this, you need Grahi (absorbent) and Deepana-Pachana (fire-kindling) herbs. To protect your system and manage loose motions, the following is a standard traditional approach: 1. Medicine: Kutajarishtam This is the gold standard for strengthening the bowels and regulating motion without causing constipation. Dosage: Take 15 ml to 25 ml mixed with an equal quantity of lukewarm water. Consume this twice daily, approximately 30 minutes after your meals.
