What to do for continual diarrhea and high blood pressure with bloating and poor appetite? - #53707
I suffer from colitus. Lately I have had continual diarrhea longer than at any other time which normally after a week returns to normal. I have continual tummy bloating and My blood pressure is high. My doctor wants me to take blood pressure tablets but this is not addressing the reason why I have diarrhea which I believe could be connected to the high blood pressure my body might be putting my blood pressure up to help me survive. My appetite appears to non existent in the mornings as the day goes on it returns until after a few hours after I have eaten then the bloating and diarrhea. My sleep also appears to be disrupted i wake during the night. I eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. I don't have blood in the stools and had a colonoscopy last year that was clear. My hair is brittle and skin has rosacea. All this is stressing me out as I am aware my body can't be getting the nutrients it needs in order to heal. Should I fast, what on earth is wrong with me? Thank you
Doctors' responses
Your statement-"my body might be raising blood pressure to help me survive the diarrhea” is not how the body works. –High blood pressure (Hypertension) is not a compensatory response to diarrhea. In fact, ongoing diarrhea usually does the opposite—it can lower blood pressure due to fluid loss. So your doctor prescribing BP medication is not ignoring your symptoms—it’s addressing a separate risk (heart, stroke, kidneys), which is important. —Your symptoms suggest a disturbance of Agni (digestive fire) with accumulation of Ama (undigested toxins) and imbalance of Vata, possibly with some Pitta involvement in the gut. This can lead to bloating, irregular bowel movements, and weakness of digestion. Stress and irregular digestion can further aggravate the condition and also affect sleep and overall body balance. The focus should be on restoring digestion, calming Vata, and reducing Ama rather than suppressing symptoms alone. ----Prescription 1) Kutajarishta 15 ml with equal warm water after food, twice daily 2) Bilwadi Leham 3 g twice daily after food 3) Dadimashtaka Churna 3 g before food with warm water 4) Musta capsule 1 cap twice daily —Diet Advice Light, warm, cooked food only Buttermilk (takra) with roasted cumin + rock salt (midday) Avoid: milk, raw salads, fried food, sugar, cold drinks Eat small frequent meals (do not fast) —Lifestyle Stress reduction (key in Grahani) Adequate sleep routine Gentle walking after meals
