Chronic constipation, oh boy, it’s something many of us wrestle with, especially when it’s been around since childhood. The gut’s a tricky beast sometimes, but with Ayurveda, we might just have some ace cards to play.
First things first, knowing your prakriti (constitution) is key, but without diving too deep, let’s tackle this generally. Flushing out ama (toxins) and balancing Vata dosha - which often stirs constipation - can be our guiding light here.
To begin, make triphala a part of your bedtime ritual. It’s a classic blend, composed of Haritaki, Bibhitaki, and Amalaki. It supports the digestive fire (agni) and can gently get things moving, with just 1 teaspoon mixed in warm water before bed. Don’t expect miracles overnight though, gotta give it a few days to kick in.
Then there’s diet, can’t overlook it. Warm, unctuous foods help soothe that vata. Think soupy stuff, stews, or khichadi. Add ghee for good measure, it’s like magic to your insides. Calm that light, airy vibe that vata craves, right? Keep raw and cold foods to a minimum, maybe even coffee if you’re a fan.
Hydration matters big time. Drink warm water throughout the day. You might find morning a great time to kickstart a routine by sipping a glass of lemon water (not too cold, not piping hot).
Oh, and don’t skip on exercise. Even a short walk or simple yoga poses like Pawanmuktasana can be golden. They help in stimulating the intestines. Stress plays tricks too—so carving out some relaxation or mindfulness will not hurt.
