Forceps - #18635

Christopher

I had a complicated delivery last year, and the doctors had to use forceps to assist in the birth. I had no idea what that meant at the time, but afterward, I experienced a lot of pain and discomfort. Even now, more than a year later, I feel pressure and occasional pain in the pelvic area. I’ve also had trouble with urinary incontinence ever since. I started researching and found out that forceps delivery can sometimes lead to long-term pelvic floor issues. I wasn’t given much information about recovery at the hospital—just told to rest. But the discomfort has never completely gone away, and I wonder if the use of forceps during childbirth caused some internal trauma that still hasn’t healed. I’ve tried doing Kegel exercises, but I’m not sure if they are helping. Are there Ayurvedic treatments that can help strengthen the pelvic muscles and heal any internal damage caused by forceps? I also read that certain herbs can help with postpartum healing—would those still work for me, even after a year? Apart from the pain, I sometimes feel a heaviness in my lower abdomen, especially when standing for too long. Could this be a sign of pelvic organ prolapse due to the forceps delivery? Are there Ayurvedic therapies or massages that can help reposition the organs and provide relief? Emotionally, this experience has been draining. I feel like my body hasn’t fully recovered, and I often get anxious about the long-term effects of forceps delivery. Can Ayurveda help with emotional balance and anxiety related to childbirth trauma? I’d really appreciate your advice on how to heal naturally and regain strength in my body after a forceps-assisted delivery.

It sounds like you’re facing a complex situation following your delivery, and I’m here to support you on your healing journey. From an Ayurvedic perspective, it seems that you may be experiencing an imbalance in your vata dosha, which governs movement and stability, especially in the pelvic region. The use of forceps can lead to physical as well as emotional trauma, which may contribute to the symptoms you’re describing.

To begin your healing process, I recommend focusing on nourishing your body and calming your mind. Start incorporating a diet rich in whole foods that are grounding and hydrating, such as warm cooked grains like rice or oats, and plenty of healthy fats like ghee and nuts. Herbal support can also be beneficial; consider using herbs like Ashwagandha and Shatavari, which are known for their restorative properties and can support hormonal balance and emotional well-being. You can create a tea with these herbs, using one teaspoon of each in hot water, and drink it twice a day.

In addition, abdominal and pelvic therapy is essential in your case. Gentle abdominal massages with warm sesame oil can help alleviate tension and encourage circulation in the pelvic region. You might consider scheduling regular sessions with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for abdominal marma therapy, which targets specific energy points to help reposition internal organs and relieve discomfort.

For urinary incontinence, continue with Kegel exercises but incorporate them mindfully; try doing them while breathing deeply to help restore pelvic floor strength. It may also be useful to practice mindfulness and meditation to address the anxiety you’ve been feeling. Techniques like deep, abdominal breathing can enhance your emotional balance and promote relaxation.

Lastly, do not hesitate to reach out to a pelvic floor physical therapist who understands your post-delivery challenges—combining their expertise with Ayurvedic support can provide you with comprehensive care. You are on a path to recovery, and with the right approach and patience, healing is absolutely attainable.
