cetirizine hydrochloride tablet uses - #18721

Elizabeth

I’ve been dealing with allergies for years now, mostly sneezing, itchy eyes, and a stuffy nose, especially when seasons change. Every time it gets worse, the doctor prescribes cetirizine hydrochloride tablets. I know it helps with allergies, but I don’t really understand all the cetirizine hydrochloride tablet uses. Is it only for seasonal allergies, or does it work for other things too? I usually take it at night because it makes me drowsy, but if I skip a dose, my symptoms come back the next day. It feels like I’m just depending on this medicine without actually fixing the problem. I also get really thirsty whenever I take cetirizine hydrochloride, and my mouth feels dry in the morning. Is that normal? I want to know if there’s an Ayurvedic way to manage allergies instead of using cetirizine hydrochloride tablets all the time. Are there herbs or home remedies that work like antihistamines but naturally? Also, can diet make a difference? I eat a lot of dairy and spicy food – could that be triggering my allergies more? Also, my cousin was given cetirizine hydrochloride tablets for a skin allergy, which confused me. I thought it was only for sneezing and cold-like symptoms. Are skin issues also one of the cetirizine hydrochloride tablet uses? If so, does Ayurveda have a different approach for respiratory allergies vs skin allergies? I really want to stop relying on these tablets and try something natural. What can I do to reduce my allergies permanently? Is there a way to strengthen my immunity so I don’t need cetirizine hydrochloride tablets every time my allergies flare up?

It sounds like you’ve been experiencing the frustrating cycle of allergies, and it’s understandable that you’re looking for a more natural solution. Cetirizine hydrochloride is indeed an antihistamine primarily used for allergic reactions, which includes seasonal allergies like sneezing and itchy eyes, but it can also be effective for skin allergies and hives, as it reduces itching and skin reactions, hence why your cousin may have been prescribed it. The dryness and increased thirst you’re experiencing are common side effects of cetirizine due to its antihistamine properties, which can cause dryness of mucous membranes.

In Ayurveda, you can take a holistic approach to manage your allergies by addressing the root causes and strengthening your overall health. First, identify your dosha; allergies often indicate an imbalance in Vata or Kapha dosha. To balance these doshas, consider incorporating warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest, focusing on sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes, which can help reduce inflammation and mucus. Limit dairy and spicy foods as they can aggravate Kapha dosha, leading to more mucus production. Instead, opt for lighter alternatives; herbal teas, particularly ginger or turmeric tea, can help manage symptoms by reducing inflammation and boosting immunity.

As for herbs, you might try using Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) and Tulsi (holy basil), which are both known for their immune-boosting properties. You can consume these herbs as teas or in supplement form after consulting an Ayurvedic practitioner. Additionally, using small amounts of honey mixed with warm water and a pinch of turmeric may help as honey has natural anti-allergic properties.

For respiratory support, consider incorporating steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil or adding a few drops of peppermint oil to your baths. Regular oil pulling with sesame oil may also help to clear out toxins from your system and reduce allergy symptoms.

Building your immunity is essential; practice pranayama (breathing exercises) to strengthen your lungs, engage in regular, moderate exercise, and ensure you maintain good sleep hygiene. As always, consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for a tailored regimen. Remember, lifestyle changes and natural remedies can take time to effect change, so be patient and consistent in your approach.
