Irregular hear beat and underweight problem - #2031

Jigna Damania

I have a irregular heart rate problem like just yesterday heart rate dropped to 40 bpm and felt dizzy, then started sweating . Heart rate is usually between 85-110 bpm actively. I am underweight since my childhood. I am having 4 meals a day which is Breakfast, morning snack , lunch then dinner. but still no changes in body weight. Also note that I am doing pranayama daily for 20-25 minutes. Is because of my weakened immune system or my heart has to work more to supply oxygen to the body? even I have a dry brittle hair. Looking forward to your reply for my issues above.

आयु: 43
पुरानी बीमारियाँ: I had my blood one at clinic over here and report was normal but slight increase in LDL .

Your symptoms, including the irregular heart rate, dizziness, and difficulty gaining weight, suggest a potential imbalance in your body that Ayurveda might address holistically. Based on the information you’ve shared, it’s possible that your body is experiencing a Vata imbalance, particularly related to the circulation and nervous system. Vata governs movement in the body, including the heartbeat, and when it is aggravated, it can lead to irregularities like low heart rate, dizziness, and dry skin or hair. The fact that you are underweight and have brittle hair also suggests a lack of nourishment or vitality, which could point to weak digestion or inadequate nutrient absorption.

In Ayurveda, a weak or irregular heartbeat might be linked to a deficiency in the body’s tissues (dhatus), particularly the blood and heart. Since you are underweight and struggle with gaining weight, your body may not be efficiently absorbing nutrients from food, which can leave you feeling fatigued, weak, and contribute to irregular heart function. Additionally, if your immune system is weak, it could also contribute to overall body weakness.

To address this, I would recommend focusing on building your “Ojas,” which is the Ayurvedic concept of vitality or immune strength. Ojas is supported by proper digestion, nourishing foods, and adequate rest. Try eating foods that are grounding, warm, and nourishing, such as ghee, soups, stews, whole grains, and healthy fats like avocado and nuts. You may also benefit from strengthening your digestion (Agni) with gentle, warming spices like ginger, cumin, and fennel.

Your pranayama practice is excellent for calming the mind and promoting circulation, but it might also be helpful to incorporate some grounding practices, like gentle yoga or restorative poses, to support your heart and overall energy levels. Additionally, consider taking herbal supplements to support heart health and improve circulation, such as Ashwagandha (for stress and energy) and Arjuna (known to support heart health).

It would also be wise to continue monitoring your health with your healthcare provider to ensure that there are no underlying cardiovascular issues.

Thank you so much for your response I want to mention here that I am taking Ashwagandha churna since 5 years but no Improvement in weight. Your detailed Highlight on my issues are really nice. as I am a ayurveda believer.

Addressing an irregular heartbeat like yours, especially with symptoms of dizziness and sweating, must be taken seriously. It’s crucial to consult with a cardiologist to assess this situation ASAP. Ayurveda can support, but heart and dizziness symptoms could be serious, maybe needing immediate medical intervention first.

Now, diving into ayurvedic insights. Your description suggests a Vata imbalance, which could also explain being underweight, and brittle hair. Vata, when out of sync, can affect the heart (consider it a vata organ) and cause erratic rhythms.

For balancing Vata, consider nourishing a little more. True, you’re eating 4 meals, but it might not be what your body needs. Go for grounding, heavier foods like warm soups, stews, and kichari. Use ghee generously - it helps balance Vata and nurtures your dhatus (tissues).

Focus on boosting your digestive fire, agni, it’s not burning at full capacity. Try ginger tea, fresh before meals - it can enhance digestion and support better nutrient assimilation.

And, you might be overdoing pranayama. While it’s good, an intense focus on certain techniques like Kapalbhati might exacerbate Vata. Tune it down or shift to more grounding paces like Nadi Shodhana and long deep breathing for just 10 minutes.

Regarding immune system, indeed, you must build Ojas, our immunity substance. Include almonds, dates, and Ashwagandha. It’s not a sprint, be kind and patient.

being underweight from childhood means checking for any underlying issues like hyperthyroidism, so don’t skip a modern medical eval.

Achieving balance when dealing with multiple issues takes time and patience - Ayurveda’s about small, incremental changes for long-term stability. Please see appropriate specialists to lay both wellness frameworks: ancient and modern. Take care!
