Your current situation with lingering pain and reflux after hiatal hernia surgery definitely warrants a thoughtful approach. Gastric reflux, or GERD, is a complex condition with roots often traceable to dietary habits, lifestyle, and even stress levels. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, GERD is often linked to an imbalance in the Pitta dosha, associated with the element of fire, leading to excessive heat and acidity in the digestive system.

First, focus on your diet. Avoid foods that are overly spicy, acidic, or heavy. These aggravate the Pitta dosha and worsen reflux. Opt for cooling and alkaline foods like cucumber, melons, and leafy greens. Coconut water can help soothe the stomach lining and reduce acidity. Eat smaller meals at regular intervals rather than large ones, and ensure not to lie down immediately after eating. Give your body two to three hours to digest before reclining.

Additionally, consider herbal remedies that can support your digestive system. Triphala, a traditional Ayurvedic blend of three fruits, can aid digestion and cleanse the gut. One teaspoon mixed in warm water can be taken before sleep. Also, licorice root (Mulethi) might help reduce inflammation and soothe the gastric lining, but consult a practitioner for proper dosage and integration with your current medications.

To address the infections noted by white spots—consult with your healthcare provider to follow anti-bacterial or anti-fungal prescriptions they recommend. Ayurveda supports the use of neem leaves or turmeric due to their antimicrobial properties, but again, this should be guided by a practitioner aware of your full medical picture to avoid any counteractions.

Lastly, managing stress is crucial as it significantly impacts digestion. Moderate yoga and Pranayama (breathing exercises) can help balance Pitta and improve overall emotional and physical well-being. Bhramari (Bee Breathing) and Sheetali (Cooling Breath) are especially useful in calming the system.

If pain persists, or if condition changes, don’t delay in seeking immediate medical attention. The symptoms you’ve described can be part of broader digestive issues requiring integrative treatment approaches. Always align your Ayurvedic practices with your physician’s guidance to ensure safety and efficacy.
