Managing high blood pressure can be a challenge, especially when it persists despite lifestyle improvements. In Ayurvedic understanding, hypertension could often stem from imbalance of doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta, as well as accumulated ama (toxins) in the body. Here’s a way to approach this from an Ayurvedic perspective.

Firstly, diet plays a crucial role in balancing doshas. Favor a diet rich in fresh fruits, leafy greens, cucumber and carrots. Foods like garlic and turmeric, known for their medicinal properties, may help in dilating blood vessels. Try including them both into meals regularly, but be mindful of their prportion since too much can irritate Pitta dosha further. Avoid excess salt, spicy food, fried items and caffeinated drinks as these can aggravate Pitta, contributing to hypertension.

When it comes to lifestyle, pranayama (breathing exercises) like Anulom Vilom and Sheetali might be especially beneficial in calming the mind and balancing the doshas. Regular practice, say 10-15 minutes every day in the morning or evening, could gradually improve your blood pressure levels. Meditation can be a great addition for stress management too, since stress is infamous for raising blood pressure.

Herbal remedies have a unique spot in Ayurveda. Herbs such as Arjuna, Brahmi, and Ashwagandha are traditionally used to support cardiovascular health. Arjuna, for instance, is known for its benefits in strengthening the heart. You may consider taking these herbs in a powdered form or as tablets, but its best to consult a local Ayurvedic practitioner for suitable dosage, considering your unique prakriti.

Lastly, ensure that your daily routine promotes a regular sleep pattern - disturbed sleep could trigger imbalances in doshas. Going to bed and waking up at consistent times are key. Also, occasional light massages with warm oil, like sesame or mustard, can be soothing and helpful for managing stress and maintaining balance. Adjust these suggestions according to your personal needs and always consult with a healthcare professionals to make sure they’re appropriate in conjunction with any ongoing treatments you have.
