how to eat shilajit - #23583

Violet

I am a bit confused about how to eat shilajit. I recently heard about it from a friend who says it's like a wonder substance for energy and overall health. I’ve been feeling a little on the low side lately, just not like my usual self. Fatigue has been my constant companion, and I’m just kinda tired of it! Last week, I finally decided to order some shilajit after seeing all those glowing testimonials online. But now that I have it in my hands, I'm like, okay, how to eat shilajit? Do I mix it with something or just take it straight? I’ve seen some sites recommending mixing it in warm water or milk, but then others say to just drop it under the tongue. Which is really the best way to do this? Also, how often should I be taking it? Once a day or more? I'm just trying to figure out if shilajit is one of those magic bullet things or if it takes time. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated!

Shilajit is indeed a fascinating substance found in Himalayas, and it’s been valued in Ayurveda for its rejuvenating properties. Considering your fatigue and energy levels, shilajit might be beneficial, but let’s dive into how you can incorporate it effectively into your daily routine.

Start by considering your body type, or prakriti, according to Ayurveda. Shilajit is tridoshic, balancing for all doshas, but its potency can influence individuals differently. If you’re feeling particularly Kapha-heavy (lethargy, sluggishness), shilajit’s warming nature can be especially supportive.

For consumption, here’s a practical way: mix a pea-sized portion (about 300 mg) with warm milk or water. Traditionally, warm milk is ideal as it aids digestion and enhances shilajit’s absorption. If you’re vegan, warm water works fine too. This method is recommended, as it helps to enhance your agni, or digestive fire. Mixing with milk can be more soothing, especially if you have a Vata or Pitta constitution, which requires cooling and grounding elements.

Taking shilajit under the tongue is another method, but it’s a bit intense for some people because of its strong taste. Dropping it under tongue allows for quicker absorption, but it’s not necessary for everyone.

As for frequency, once a day is generally sufficient to begin with, preferably in the morning. Monitor how your body responds over a couple of weeks. Shilajit is not an instant fix; it’s more about gradual, sustained energy and balance over time. If you feel comfortable and don’t notice any adverse effects, you might consider upping the dose to twice daily, but always be cautious with increasing dosages.

Lastly, be patient. Ayurveda is about the long journey towards balance and health, rather than quick fixes. Make sure to pair your shilajit consumption with a balanced diet, appropriate exercise, and, of course, good sleep hygiene too… and of course avoid heavy, processed foods which might constrict shilajit’s efficacy. If you feel discomfort or unclear results, consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to personalize your regimen further.
