how to remove pitta from body - #23819

Hannah

I am feeling really out of balance lately. My digestion is all over the place, I get these super intense cravings — especially for spicy food — and I've been getting rashes that seem to pop up for no reason! A friend suggested I might have too much pitta in my body, which makes sense because I'm always hot and a bit irritable. Just last week, I had my lunch and I felt like I could explode from the heat. I keep reading about how to remove pitta from body but I'm not sure where to start. Is there like specific foods I should avoid? Everyone keeps saying cooling herbs or teas, but do they really make that much of a difference? Also, I've tried a couple of Ayurvedic tonics, but not sure if they’re targeted for reducing pitta. How do I remove pitta from body effectively or is it that easy? I really hope not! Would love any tips that might help.

Managing excess pitta can feel overwhelming, but you can absolutely balance it with mindful lifestyle choices, including diet, daily habits, and even your surroundings. Pitta, being connected with fire and water, manifests in symptoms like those you’re experiencing, so cooling down is crucial. Let’s dig into some practical steps you can implement to cool that pitta fire.

First off concentrate on diet, sticking to foods that have cooling, dry, or bitter qualities. Go for fresh fruits like melons, pears, and sweet apples. Cucumbers and leafy greens are excellent too! Avoid spicy, fried, and fermented foods, as they aggravate pitta further. Especially skip tomatoes, garlic and onions if possible. You sound like you’re into spicy food, so consider milder spices like coriander and fennel - they add flavor without the heat.

Herbal teas or homemade infusions can help too. Try drinking teas made from coriander seeds or mint leaves once or twice a day. These can certainly calm the fiery pitta energy. Ashwagandha and guduchi are also effective herbs for soothing pitta, but consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure they suit your individual constitution before taking.

In terms of lifestyle, keep things relaxed and cool. Avoid being out in the hot sun; instead, enjoy cool showers and air-conditioned spaces. Opt for light, loose cotton clothing to calm your skin. Incorporate relaxing activities like yoga, especially poses like forward bends and seated postures, and meditation with a focus on cooling breaths are terrific here.

Stress, as you’ve probably guessed, can further vitiate pitta. Set aside time for unwinding at the end of each day, get enough sleep, and engage in activities that bring joy without competitiveness, such as walking in nature or gentle arts like music or crafts.

Lastly, tonics like amla or aloe vera juice are great for pacifying pitta, but ensure they are specific to reducing pitta dosha. It might be worth talking to a specialist about which tonics are best for you. It’s not about eliminating pitta but balancing it. You’ve got this - start small and see what feels right!
