how to remove shoe smell - #24759

Evelyn

I am really struggling with this awful shoe smell that just won't go away! I’ve tried everything from spraying them with vinegar to stuffing them with newspaper overnight, and nothing seems to work. It all started a few months ago when I bought a pair of sneakers that I just loved, but now they smell so bad it's embarrassing! I've tried washing them in the machine too, but even that didn’t really help. I feel like I’m constantly worrying about taking off my shoes around friends or even at home; it’s driving me nuts. I read somewhere about using baking soda, but like, do you just dump it in there, or do you mix it with anything? I really just need some clear advice on how to remove shoe smell without spending a fortune or ruining my shoes! Anyone have tips that actually work?? I would really appreciate it!!

Dealing with shoe smell can be quite frustrating, but Ayurveda offers some natural and practical solutions that might help you out. The issue of shoe odor often comes down to moisture and bacteria buildup. One potential method involves using a simple Ayurvedic remedy involving essential oils and natural powders.

Consider using neem powder, which is known in Ayurveda for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. You can sprinkle neem powder directly inside your sneakers after you wear them, let it sit overnight, and then shake it out the next day. It helps absorb moisture and combat the odor-causing bacteria.

Baking soda is also beneficial for neutralizing odors. After wearing your sneakers, simply sprinkle a bit of baking soda inside them and let it sit for a few hours. You don’t need to mix it with anything else. This alkaline substance helps to absorb moisture and neutralize the acids that make shoes smell unpleasant.

If you’re open to using essential oils, try adding a few drops of tea tree oil onto a cotton ball and placing it inside each shoe overnight. Tea tree oil has strong antimicrobial properties, making it effective against odor-causing microbes. But remember not to pour oils directly into the shoes.

Additionally, ensure that your feet are well taken care of, as smelly shoes can sometimes stem from sweaty feet. Wash your feet regularly with lukewarm water and dry them thoroughly. Consider soaking them in a lukewarm foot bath with a pinch of sea salt and a few drops of lemon juice, which can help reduce excessive sweating and eliminate bacteria.

An important factor to be mindful of is allowing your shoes to dry completely between wears. Kind of alternate between different pairs of shoes if possible, to give them time to air out. If your lifestyle permits, avoid wearing closed shoes without socks.

These approaches can be simple yet effective. No need to break the bank or risk ruining those beloved sneakers!
