Alright, dealing with gallstones and sluge can feel tricky, especially considering your father’s age and his other condishuns like diabetes, BP and heart issues. First thing’s first, since he isn’t in pain and his other conditions are stable. That’s a good thing but also we got to be careful, okay?
From an Ayurvedic perspective, gallstones could indicate an imbalance in the Pitta dosha. It’s essential to calm this dosha to support his liver and gallbladder function. Start with a simple, dietary shift. Encourage him to have warm, cooked meals instead of cold stuff, balancing those spices like turmeric, cumin, and coriander that soothe Pitta. Also, he should ditch the oily, fried foods, and heavy, too spicy meals that can aggravate his Pitta.
He would benefit from taking Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) which is great liver tonic. He can take it 1-2 grams per day mixed with warm water. Then there’s Triphala, surprisingly versatile - could take it before sleep, maybe 1 teaspoon in warm water. Keeps the digestive system happy, and remove excess Kapha and Pitta too.
And let’s not forget about hydration. Make sure he sips warm water throughout the day, it should be his go-to. Maybe even sip on apple cider vineger (like a tablespoon with half glass warm water) before meals, it’s got a lot of like, anecdotal support in softening stones. Encourage lemon juice also – it’s like a friendly nudge to the liver.
Light exercises–I’m thinking maybe some yoga or gentle walking daily–can aid in keeping his body’s energies balanced, too. But, keep it light so he ain’t over exerting himself.
But seriously, if there are any sudden changes, like he gets pain or gets feverish, get medical help pronto. Ayurvedic remedies can support but doesn’t replace medical care if things start acting up. Stay mindful, safe!
