what happens when you drink lemon water for 7 days - #35887

Hudson

I am really curious about this whole lemon water thing. Like, I've heard so many ppl talking about it, and I thought I should try it myself. Last week, I decided to drink lemon water every morning befor my day starts, right? I mean, I've been feeling a bit sluggish, and ya know, was hoping for some boost. But now I'm wondering, what happens when you drink lemon water for 7 days, like, is it really that beneficial? The first few days were okay—definitely noticed my digestion improving a bit. But then, by day 5, I felt like I was running to the bathroom every two seconds, LOL. Is that normal? I thought lemon water was supposed to detox or something, but maybe I'm overdoing it? Also, my skin kinda started clearing up, but then I got this weird rash on my arm, and I have NO idea if it’s related. I read somewhere that citrus can sometimes cause sensitivity? I wanna know, what happens when you drink lemon water for 7 days—is it all good, should I expect any side effects? Do I keep going or should I ease up? Feeling kinda confused and, tbh, a little worried about that rash too. Any advice? Thanks!

Drinking lemon water for 7 days can bring about certain changes in your body, and it sounds like you’re noticing a mix of positive effects and perhaps some unexpected ones. Let’s dive into it. Lemon water is often seen as a refreshing start to the day, and it’s known in Ayurveda to help stimulate Agni, or digestive fire, which can aid digestion. You mentioned some improvement there, so it seems you’re on the right track with that aspect.

However, running to the bathroom frequently by day 5 suggests that perhaps your system is experiencing a laxative effect. This is sometimes due to the citric acid in lemons, which can accelerate digestion. If you’re finding it too disruptive, consider reducing the quantity of lemon juice or consuming it on alternate days to allow your body to adjust. Also, remember that Ayurveda emphasizes moderation— so, always go with what feels balanced for you.

Regarding your skin clearing up, this could be attributed to lemon water’s Vitamin C content, which supports skin health. But the rash you’re seeing might indeed be a reaction. Citrus can exacerbate sensitivities for some people. Observe whether reducing intake affects that rash and stay hydrated with plain water as well.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, it’s also essential to align with your dosha. If your Pitta is high, an excess of lemons’ sour taste might aggravate it further, leading to skin issues or digestive irregularities.

You asked whether it’s all good and if you should expect any more effects. After 7 days, the body typically adjusts, but everyone reacts differently. If the rash persists or worsens, consider consulting with a dermatologist or another health professional. If you choose to continue with it, listen to your body’s response and adapt. Ayurveda is about harmony, so proceed with a sense of what feels nourishing and suitable for your system.

Drinking lemon water for 7 days can have mixed effects, and your experience is not uncommon. In Siddha-Ayurveda, lemons are considered to increase the digestive fire, or agni, which may help with sluggishness and perhaps promote better digestion. This aligns with your observation in the first few days. Lemons are also known to have a slight diuretic effect, which explains your increased trips to the bathroom. For those with vata or pitta prakriti, this may sometimes lead to a feeling of dryness or increased elimination.

However, moderation is key. Consuming too much lemon can imbalance the pitta dosha due to its inherent sour and astringent qualities, potentially causing skin sensitivity or rashes as you noted on your arm. Citrus fruits like lemon can indeed cause skin issues in sensitive individuals, especially if there’s an underlying pitta imbalance (related to heat and inflammatory conditions).

To address your current situation—if you are finding benefits in digestion but experiencing a rash, consider reducing the lemon concentration or frequency. You might dilute the lemon further in water, or skip a day between intakes. Monitor how your body responds after adjustments. The rash should be checked by a healthcare professional if it persists to rule out any unrelated conditions.

Additionally, integrate balance through hydration with water that doesn’t contain lemon, and maintain stability in your diet and lifestyle that accommodates your unique constitution. If overconsumption to detox isn’t necessary, you could also explore alternatives, such as gently spiced teas with ingredients like ginger or cardamom, which might support digestion without overburdening the system.

Remember, adjust and tune according to how your body responds while ensuring every step aligns with your Ayurvedic constitution. If the rash intensifies, definitely get immediate attention to explore its root cause.
