why is my hair falling so much - #36595

Gabriella

I am really stressed out these days, and honestly, I don't know what to think about my hair! I mean, why is my hair falling so much? It feels like every time I brush my hair, there’s more and more in the brush, and it's really scaring me. Just a couple of months ago, everything was fine; but now, it seems like I'm constantly pulling out strands of hair. I did a little research online, and I read about a million reasons. Like, stress, hormonal changes, the weather, even diet! I tried changing up my diet a bit thinking that could help, but nope. Some days it feels worse than others. Also, I noticed I’ve been sleeping poorly lately, and I wonder if that's contributing too... The more I think about it, the more I stress and it’s like a vicious cycle! I hear Ayurveda can really help with these kinds of issues. But honestly, I feel lost. I just want to know why is my hair falling so much and if there's something natural and effective I can do. Have any of you experienced something similar? What did you do? Any natural remedies you could suggest? Just really hoping for some guidance here!

Hair fall can indeed be frustrating, and it’s understandable to be concerned, especially when it seems to escalate suddenly. In Ayurvedic terms, hair fall is often linked to imbalances in your doshas, particularly Vata. Stress, poor sleep, and dietary issues can exacerbate these imbalances, resulting in increased hair loss.

Firstly, stress is a common culprit and can lead to elevated levels of cortisol, which might trigger telogen effluvium—a condition where stress pushes hair follicles into a resting phase. To address this, consider introducing calming practices like meditation or yoga into your daily routine; they help balance Vata and reduce the negative impact of stress on your body.

Your diet plays a crucial role too. Ensure you’re consuming sattvic foods that nourish the hair, such as nuts like almonds, walnuts, and seeds like flaxseeds. These contain essential fatty acids and proteins that are vital for healthy hair. Include green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and fresh fruits to support your Agni or digestive fire, ensuring proper nutrient absorption.

For an immediate, natural remedy, try applying coconut or sesame oil infused with herbs like bhringraj or amla directly to your scalp. Gently massage this oil in circular motions to improve blood circulation and reduce stress. Doing this once or twice a week can be beneficial for promoting hair growth and maintaining scalp health.

Sleep disturbances can also contribute to hair loss. Establish a regular sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. Drinking a warm cup of herbal tea with ashwagandha or chamomile before bedtime can help calm your mind, improve sleep quality, and further balance Vata.

As a holistic approach underpins Ayurveda, ensuring a balance between your mind, body, and environment is significant. If hair fall persists or worsens, considering consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner directly for personalized guidance. They might recommend specific Panchakarma treatments, which are detoxifying and rejuvenating therapies tailored to your unique body constitution.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
