Copper water bottles are quite popular for their purported health benefits in traditional practices, including some principles in Siddha-Ayurveda. Drinking water that’s been stored in a copper vessel can indeed provide certain benefits, as copper is known for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. It has a role in balancing all three doshas—vata, pitta, and kapha—to some extent, by enhancing digestion and metabolism, particularly affecting the agni, or digestive fire.
Storing water in a copper vessel overnight or for about 6-8 hours is believed to allow the water to imbibe beneficial properties. However, it’s crucial not to overdo it, as excessive copper intake can indeed lead to toxicity, known as copper toxicity, causing symptoms like gastric distress, headaches, or even more severe consequences in higher exposures. For most people, drinking about two to three glasses of such water in a day should be safe and potentially beneficial.
The “funny” stomach feeling you’re noticing could be your body’s response to an initial adjustment. Ensuring you’re not over-consuming can help alleviate adverse feelings. Observing how your body responds over a few days or a week is wise. If discomfort persists, it may be wise to reduce the amount you’re drinking and see if symptoms subside.
Copper tower water won’t magically fix imbalances in your doshas by itself; targeted dietary and lifestyle adjustments are necessary for that. Monitor how your body feels—if any significant discomfort continues, or if you notice other symptoms developing, it might be worthwhile to consult with a healthcare professional to check levels of copper in your system. Better to be cautious and ensure no bigger underlying issue. Remember, moderation is key, like with most things.
