Lung fibrosis presents unique health challenges that require comprehensive care. While Ayurveda can offer supportive treatments, it shouldn’t replace conventional medicine, especially in severe cases like this, where extensive oxygen support is needed. It’s critical to maintain ongoing consultations with her primary healthcare provider while exploring Ayurvedic therapies.
In Ayurveda, lung fibrosis may relate to an imbalance in the Vata and Kapha doshas. This imbalance can cause dryness and accumulation of mucus in respiratory pathways. For supportive therapy, dietary changes could be beneficial. Encourage your wife to consume warm, moist foods with spices like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper. These spices can help balance Kapha and promote lung health. Avoid cold and heavy foods, which may increase mucus production.
Herbal supplements like Vasaka (Adhatoda vasica) can support respiratory function, but consult your Ayurvedic practitioner before starting new supplements, especially if she is taking other medications. Pippali (Piper longum) is another herb traditionally used for respiratory issues, known for its potential to enhance lung function. Taking warm Pippali-infused tea can help alleviate some coughing.
Pranayama, specifically Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), may encourage better respiratory efficiency. However, she should perform these exercises gently without strain, under the guidance of a qualified instructor.
Keep a consistent routine with regular follow-up sessions with both her primary doctors and Ayurvedic specialists. Immediate medical attention is critical if her symptoms worsen, to ensure her safety. Balancing Ayurveda with conventional treatments might help improve her quality of life, but always prioritize your wife’s pressing medical needs.
