how to cool down body temperature - #39761

Christopher

I am feeling super anxious about this crazy heatwave we're having. Like, I can't even think straight! My body temperature just seems outta control – it's like I'm a walking sauna. I noticed it really bad last week when I was at my sister's wedding. I was sweating like crazy and even got a headache from it. I tried drinking a lot of cold water, but that was only a temporary fix, honestly. I heard somewhere about how important it is to keep your body temperature in check, especially in this weather but no one really explained how to cool down body temperature. The other day, I did some yoga in an attempt to relax and I felt a bit better, but of course, even that made me sweat more. I’ve been thinking about trying some herbal teas or something? I keep hearing about neem and mint, but how do those actually help with body temp? And is there anything else out there I could do? Like, I’m really open to suggestions about how to cool down my body temperature. Should I be changing my diet too? I just feel really lost and don’t want this to mess with my sleep or my health overall. Anyone else struggle with this? How to cool down body temperature without making me feel worse? Would love any tips!

When dealing with high body temperature during such heatwaves, Ayurveda teaches us to prioritize balance, particularly for the Pitta dosha, which governs heat and metabolism. To cool down the body, consider these practical steps to incorporate into your routine:

1. Hydration with a Twist: Staying hydrated is key but instead of plain cold water, opt for drinks with cooling properties such as coconut water. It’s naturally refreshing and replenishes electrolytes lost through sweating. You may also prepare an infusion of cumin seeds. Just soak a teaspoon of cumin seeds in water overnight. Strain and drink the water, this can help cool the body down from the inside.

2. Incorporate Neem and Mint: Both neem and mint have cooling properties and can be easily integrated into your daily routine. For mint, you can create a refreshing herbal tea by boiling a handful of mint leaves in water and allowing it to cool before drinking. Neem, being more potent, can be consumed in the form of a diluted extract capsule, available in health stores. Remember, moderation is key, especially with neem.

3. Dietary Adjustments: Focus on eating lighter meals with cooling foods. Include cucumbers, watermelon, and leafy greens which are naturally hydrating and cooling. Avoid spicy, acidic, or fried foods, as they can increase body heat, aggravating Pitta imbalances.

4. Yoga and Pranayama: Since you’re already practicing yoga, you might want to explore Pranayama techniques focused on cooling, like Sheetali or Sheetkari. These breathing exercises help reduce body heat. Try to practice in a cool environment to avoid generating excess heat while exercising.

5. Aloe Vera Consumption: Aloe vera juice has a cooling effect and is packed with nutrients that can assist in regulating body temperature. Just be sure to choose a high-quality, pure form without added sugar.

6. Dress Comfortably: Opt for loose, lightweight, and breathable clothing in natural fibers like cotton or linen. This aids in body heat dissipation and helps avoid additional sweating.

7. Ayurvedic Oil Application: Applying sandalwood or camphor oil as a topical treatment on your body can provide a calming and cooling sensation. These can be used on pulse points or even the soles of your feet for enhanced cooling effects.

Remember to consult with a healthcare provider, especially if symptoms persist or worsen. It’s essential to ensure you’re safe and not delaying any critical medical care needed due to excessive heat exposure.
