My daughter has had hay fever for a few years now, but this year the symptoms have become quite severe. We live in Melbourne, where grass pollen levels are very high from October to December every year. Her recent allergy panel showed very high IgE levels specifically for grass pollen. Her symptoms include: • Nasal congestion and blocked nose • Throat congestion • Occasional heavy chest and difficulty taking a deep breath • A sense of heaviness during high-pollen days She currently takes a methi seed kadha, which provides mild temporary relief. I am looking for guidance on: 1. When pollen enters the nose/throat,her immune system reacts too strongly-> causing -blocked or runny nose -throat phlegm -itchy/watery eyes -occassionally tight chest or difficulty taking a deep breath

Chemicals like histamine are released excessivley-> swelling, mucus, and irritation increase

Ayurveda sees hay fever as caused by

KAPHA AGGRAVATION -kapha governs mucus, lubrication, heaviness. In allergies kapha becomes sticky, heavy, and obstructive-> congestion.

VATA IMBALANCE -vata controls movement. when irritated (by cold weather, stress, irregular routine), it disturbs respiratory pathways-> causing cough, blocked breathing, throat irritation, chest tightness

AMA (TOXIC BUILDUP) -Weak digestion leads to undigested residues-> “ama”. Ama mixes with kapha-> forming thick, sticky mucus that traps allergens and triggers stronger reactions.

LOW OJAS (IMMUNITY VITALITY) -Frequent stress, weak digestion, low sleep quality, or seasonal changes weaken Ojas , making the body more reactive.

TREATMENT GOALS

SHORT TERM GOALS -reduces nasal and throat congestion -controls mucus production -calm inflammation -ease breathing -clear accumulated kapha and ama

LONG TERM GOALS -strengthen immunity -restore vata-kapha balance -reduce sensitivity to alergens -improve digestion -create long term respiratory resilience -prepare the body before pollen season starts

INTERNAL MEDICATIONS

1) HARIDRAKHANDA= 1 tsp mixed with warm milk at night daily from July to January (especially before pollen season) = reduces histamine like reactions, balances kapha, improves immunity, reduces throat and nasal irritation

2) GUDUCHI GHAN VATI= 2 tabs twice daily after meals for 3 months = very good for reducing allergic overreaction, cleans the blood, improves immune balance, boosts Ojas

3) SITOPALADI CHURNA+ TALISADI CHURNA= 1 tsp with honey twice daily after meals during high pollen days or whenever chest congestion increases = very effective for throat congestion, reduces kapha without the body feeling weak, helps relieve chest heaviness, works deeper on lungs, reduces mucus, cough

4) TRIKATU CHURNA= 1/4 tsp a small pinch with warm water after meals = strengthens digestion, clears ama, reduces excessive kapha

EXTERNAL TREATMENT

1) NASYA= instill 2 drops of Anu taila in each nostril in the morning after a warm shower = strengthens nasal mucosa, acts as a barrier against pollen, reduces inflammation, clears kapha from sinuses
