Fluctuations in HBV DNA levels in chronic hepatitis B are not uncommon, and the body’s response can vary widely from person to person. Chronic hepatitis B can, in some cases, clear on its own, but this is relatively rare. It’s encouraging that your liver function tests have remained within normal ranges, suggesting your liver is not severely affected so far. However, the variations in HBV DNA levels like seen here can be frustrating and concerning.
The changes in the HBV DNA levels that you’ve mentioned may be influenced by several factors, including immune system interactions, viral mutations, or responses to any treatments if you’re on them. Typical indicators of potential clearance would include a decrease in HBV DNA levels over time, and seroconversion to hepatitis B surface antibody-positive status. However, without significant reduction in the viral load or seroconversion, the virus itself is not likely clearing.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, chronic hepatitis is seen through the lens of Agni (digestive fire) and doshas. A balanced diet tailored to your prakriti (constitution) can play a significant role. Focus on foods that support liver function, such as bitter greens, turmeric (haridra), and amla, which can help in managing pitta and kapha doshas, often implicated in liver ailments. Also, optimize Agni with warm, easily digestible foods, and eliminate processed or heavy foods that might strain the liver.
Routine practices like yoga or meditation may aid in stress management, which can further support immune function. Regular follow-ups with both your healthcare provider and Ayurvedic practitioner ensures a comprehensive care plan, balancing modern medicine and traditional wisdom.
For now, maintaining regular monitoring of your HBV DNA and liver function tests is critical, and if changes or symptoms like jaundice or fatigue occur, seek immediate medical consultation. Continue following any medical advice, including possible antiviral therapies, and watchfully waiting under professional supervision remains essential.
