To address the issue of scanty menstrual flow, it’s crucial to understand your prakriti, or constitutional type in Ayurveda. The imbalance of doshas, particularly vata and kapha, can lead to irregular or insufficient menstrual flow. Since you’ve been taking Ashokarishta —traditional Ayurvedic medicine—it might be influencing your flow by balancing your doshas. But it’s important to evaluate if it’s the right one for you to continue.
First, reviewing your diet could offer some insights to enhance your flow. Embrace warm, nourishing foods like soups or stews that pacify vata and kapha. Include spices like black pepper, cumin, and ginger in your meals to improve agni or your digestive fire. These results in better absorption of nutrients needed for a healthy menstrual cycle.
Ayurveda also emphasizes the efficacy of correct lifestyle practices to support menstrual health. Avoid excessive physical exertion and stress, as they can exacerbate vata imbalance. Practice gentle yoga or pranayama to maintain mental peace and balance hormones.
Herbs can also play a supportive role. Consider Shatavari or Lodhra, both revered in Ayurveda for their role in maintaining reproductive health. However, any herbal supplement should ideally be used under supervision of qualified Ayurvedic professional to tailor your specific needs effectively.
Understand too, that hydration is essential. Drink plenty of warm water, perhaps infused with ajwain (carom seeds) or fennel, which help in regulating flow and digestion.
If the problem persists, it may be best to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner, or healthcare provider who can assess your complete health history and provide a more personalized assessment. Urgency isn’t typically suggested just from mild flow reductions if other health indicators are stable, but consistent symptom evaluation is wise.
Lastly, if menstrual flow continues to pose a concern or cause other symptoms like severe fatigue or unintended weight change, seek medical attention. Engaging in periodic health check-ups can highlight any related conditions which may necessitate intervention beyond Ayurveda.
