No, do not apply castor oil to an open biopsy site (especially within 1–2 weeks and before Mohs surgery).
A biopsy site that was lanced is still considered an open or healing wound, even if it looks small.
Castor oil is occlusive and heavy, which can:
Trap bacteria
Delay proper wound closure
Increase risk of irritation or infection
Dermatologists typically want the area:
Clean
Moist with something inert (like plain petroleum jelly)
Free of botanicals or oils before Mohs surgery so margins and healing aren’t affected
Most Mohs surgeons specifically advise no herbal oils, essential oils, or medicated ointments before surgery.

Do not use castor oil on an open biopsy wound, especially when basal cell carcinoma is diagnosed and Mohs surgery is planned.
Open wounds need to stay clean and sterile
Oils can trap bacteria, delay healing, and increase infection risk
It may interfere with proper wound assessment before Mohs surgery
What to do
Clean gently with normal saline or clean water
Apply plain petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or the ointment prescribed by your doctor
Cover with a clean dressing
Keep the area dry and protected
