Epley maneuver - #17612

Anonymously

A few weeks ago, I started experiencing sudden dizziness whenever I moved my head a certain way. It usually happens when I wake up and try to get out of bed or when I tilt my head back. The dizziness lasts only for a few seconds, but it’s intense—it feels like the whole room is spinning. I also feel a little nauseous when it happens, and sometimes I have to hold onto something to keep my balance. I went to the doctor, and they told me it could be something called BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). They suggested trying the Epley maneuver, which is supposed to help reposition tiny crystals in the inner ear that are causing the dizziness. They even showed me how to do it, but I’m still a little nervous about trying it on my own. That’s why I started looking into Ayurveda. Can Ayurveda help with vertigo, or is the Epley maneuver the only option? Are there any Ayurvedic treatments or herbs that can strengthen the inner ear and prevent dizziness from happening in the first place? I’ve heard that Brahmi and Ashwagandha are good for the nervous system—can they help with balance issues too? I also feel like my digestion and stress levels might be making my vertigo worse. I’ve noticed that my dizziness sometimes happens after I eat heavy meals or when I’m really anxious. Could Ayurveda help with that? Does Ayurveda have a long-term solution for vertigo, or will I always have to rely on the Epley maneuver? If anyone here has used Ayurveda to treat BPPV or dizziness, did it actually work? How long did it take to see improvement? I really want to find a natural way to manage this so I don’t have to live in fear of sudden dizziness attacks. Any advice would be really helpful.

Ayurveda offers several natural remedies for managing BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and dizziness. Herbs like Brahmi and Ashwagandha are beneficial for calming the nervous system, reducing stress, and supporting balance, while Shankhapushpi helps with dizziness and mental clarity. Ayurveda also emphasizes a lifestyle focused on stress management, such as yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation, to improve balance and overall well-being. For digestion-related dizziness, a light, balanced diet and digestive herbs like ginger can help. While the Epley maneuver is medically recommended for repositioning ear crystals in BPPV, Ayurveda focuses on correcting the underlying Vata imbalance through herbs, lifestyle changes, and mindfulness, offering a holistic approach to long-term relief. Combining Ayurvedic remedies with medical treatments like the Epley maneuver can provide comprehensive support.

BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is a condition where small crystals in the inner ear become dislodged, affecting balance and causing dizziness when moving the head. While the Epley maneuver is a common and effective treatment to reposition these crystals, Ayurveda offers several complementary approaches to help manage vertigo and support overall balance. Brahmi and Ashwagandha are both highly regarded in Ayurveda for their ability to nourish the nervous system, reduce stress, and enhance mental clarity, which may help alleviate symptoms of vertigo caused by stress or anxiety. Brahmi, in particular, is known for its ability to improve brain function and balance, making it beneficial for vertigo related to nervous system imbalance. In Ayurveda, digestive health (Agni) plays a key role in overall well-being, including balance. Poor digestion, especially after heavy meals, can exacerbate dizziness and vertigo. To improve digestion and reduce the chances of vertigo after eating, Ayurveda recommends incorporating digestive spices like ginger, cumin, and fennel into your diet. Drinking warm herbal teas, such as ginger tea or peppermint tea, can also aid digestion and help calm nausea associated with vertigo. Additionally, Triphala, a well-known Ayurvedic herb, can help regulate digestion and detoxify the body, supporting balance. For long-term management of vertigo, Ayurveda suggests regular yoga and meditation to reduce stress and improve blood circulation, which can prevent dizziness from recurring. Pranayama (breathing exercises), especially Anulom Vilom (alternate nostril breathing), can help calm the nervous system and improve circulation, which may reduce the frequency of dizziness. You may also benefit from herbal oils like Sesame oil for gentle head massages, which can improve circulation in the head and neck area, potentially reducing vertigo symptoms over time. While Ayurveda can help manage vertigo holistically, it’s essential to work alongside your healthcare provider to address the root causes of BPPV, including using the Epley maneuver when necessary.
