Hi Thilini, Can you describe your diet and daily routine, including physical activity? Also, do you feel excessively thirsty or tired often? In Ayurveda, managing diabetes involves balancing blood sugar, digestion, and the underlying doshas. It’s important to assess your body’s internal balance and lifestyle factors to guide a more effective approach.

Hello Thillini, Are you experiencing symptoms like frequent urination, excessive thirst, fatigue, or weight loss? What does your typical daily diet consist of? Do you exercise regularly, and if so, what type and how often? How is your sleep quality, and do you often feel stressed? Do you have a family history of diabetes or other metabolic disorders?: Your diabetes may be poorly controlled due to a possible Kapha imbalance, insulin resistance, stress, or dietary factors.

Management:

Eat a Kapha-pacifying diet with whole grains, bitter vegetables, fiber, and low glycemic index foods. Avoid refined sugar, excess carbs, fried foods, and processed snacks. Exercise daily with brisk walking, yoga, or swimming for 45 minutes. Practice Anulom Vilom and Bhramari Pranayama to reduce stress. Ensure 7-8 hours of proper sleep. Try herbs like Guduchi, Bitter Gourd, Jamun seed powder, or Fenugreek under Ayurvedic guidance. Stay hydrated with warm water and herbal teas like fenugreek or coriander tea. Monitor blood sugar levels and HbA1c regularly.

Managing diabetes with Ayurveda involves addressing the root causes, focusing on diet, lifestyle modifications, and appropriate herbal formulations. From what you’ve described, there seems to be a need to look into your diet, exercise routine, and stress management.

First things first, blood sugar level at 260 mg/dL is quite high and an urgent consultation with an allopathic (modern medicine) doctor is important. Ayurvedic treatments can be complementary but should not replace conventional medical advice especially when blood sugar levels are this elevated.

For an Ayurvedic perspective after you ensure immediate medical advice, consider focusing on varying aspects of your lifestyle. A key concept in Ayurveda is balancing your doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha — to ensure overall health. Frequently, diabetes is related to an imbalance in Kapha due to poor diet, inactive lifestyle, or stress.

Diet is pivotal. Start by incorporating more bitter and astringent foods such as fenugreek, turmeric, ginger, and neem leaves. They are particularly helpful in controlling blood sugar. Avoid sugars, processed foods, and excessive oil – these increase Kapha dosha. Eating at regular times and olving meals that are high in fiber can also support stable blood sugar levels. A simple recipe: soak a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds overnight, have them first thing in the morning with water.

Physical activity is crucial. Engage in regular, moderate exercise such as walking or yoga, about 30 minutes daily if possible. It can greatly aid in sugar control and enhance digestion, or as we say in Ayurveda, the ‘Agni’ which impacts metabolism.

Lastly, stress is a significant factor. Practicing relaxation techniques like meditation or breathing exercises can be useful. Even taking the time to practice mindfulness a few minutes a day can make a big diffenrence in managing both stress and blood sugar levels.

Remember this holistic approach should be adjunct to advice given by your primary healthcare provider. Ayurvedic remedies can work synergistically with modern treatments, but it’s essental not to delay necessary medical attention.
