Dealing with pain related to a herniated disc and neuroma in the stump can be particularly challenging, especilly considering your past injury. To determine whether you would need medication or surgery, it’s crucial to understand the severity and exact nature of your condition. MRI findings are instrumental but discussing them with your healthcare provider, especially a specialist who understands your specific case, will be essential.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, managing pain involves balancing the doshas and improving the body’s natural healing capabilities. For nerve pain like what you’re experiencing, considering Vata imbalance might be helpful. This dosha impacts the nervous system, and when out of balance, can lead to increases in pain and discomfort.

An Ayurvedic approach would typically begin with diet and lifestyle changes. A Vata-pacifying diet – warm, cooked foods with good fats like ghee, grounding spices like ginger, and limited intake of dry and cold foods – could be beneficial. Try incorporating warm, nourishing meals that keep your energy stable and calm your nerves.

Topically applying medicated oils, such as Mahanarayan oil or Dhanvantaram oil, warmed and massaged gently onto the affected area, may help alleviate some discomfort. This can improve circulation and ease tension. Be cautious with any massage though, especially in sensitive areas, and consult a professional for proper application.

Herbs like Ashwagandha and Brahmi might support nerve health and reduce inflammtion. They can be taken as powders added to warm milk or water daily, but again, it’s vital to consult an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor these recommendations to your specific needs and ensure there are no interactions with any current medication.

Yoga and pranayama for stress relief and improving spinal health are also worth exploring. Gentle movements and breathing exercises can assist in maintaining flexibility and managing stress.

However, given the potential severity of neuroma and herniated disc issues, alongside the limitations of non-surgical inteventions, it is prudent to have a thorough discussion with your primary doctor or neurologist. They can provide a clear picture of which treatments — ranging from conservative to surgical — would be most beneficial based on your particular situation. they might recommend a combination of treatments, and it’s important to ensure any Ayurvedic remedies align with medical advice.
