How to reduce libido - #20588
Im a 20 year old man, I want to reduce my libido because sexual desires are becoming a distraction for me and I would like to focus in beneficial things. If there is a way to reduce the semen production maybe without damaging overall health or testosterones, it'd be good. So I was hoping if there is any food or herb which is very useful to reduce libido... I have heard papermint and coriander leaves are somewhat effective but I'm not sure. I'd prefer something very effective that would maybe reduce my libido over 50%

Addressing a heightened libido can indeed be a challenge especially if it becomes distracting. From an Ayurvedic perspective, balancing your doshas, particularly Kapha and Pitta, will help in managing your sexual desires. Ayurveda sees libido primarily as a function of the reproductive tissue (Shukra Dhatu) and by supporting the balance in this area, you can help moderate your libido without affecting overall health or testosterone levels.
To reduce libido, you might look into dietary and lifestyle changes. Start by incorporating foods with cooling and calming properties, which align with a Kapha and Pitta-pacifying diet. You were right about mint; peppermint is cooling and can have a subtle calming effect on the mind and body. Adding coriander to your food can also help as it’s known to be calming and good for digestion.
You might also try Ashwagandha and Brahmi. Although Ashwagandha is known for boosting sexual health in many cases, it can have an adaptogenic effect, helping balance unnatural levels. Brahmi, meanwhile, supports mental clarity and calmness, reducing stress and anxiety which can indirectly moderate sexual urges.
Furthermore, adopting lifestyle practices can be helpful. Regular exercise can help channel physical urges towards physical activity instead. Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) are beneficial for calming the mind. Practice meditation for at least 10-20 minutes a day, focusing on calming and centering your thoughts.
Sleep is crucial too. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep a night. An irregular sleep pattern can aggravate Vata, affecting balance in your body including appetites of various kinds.
Regarding specific herbs like ashwagandha or brahmi, it’s crucial to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any new regimen, to ensure it’s tailored to your unique constitution and needs.
Lastly, be patient with the process. Ayurveda recommends a holistic and gradual approach, rather than a sudden shift to achieve sustainable balance.
