Perennial allergic rhinitis can be quite persistent, but Ayurveda offers some holistic approaches that may provide relief. First, let’s look at your diet and lifestyle. Allergic rhinitis is often linked with an imbalance of kapha dosha, so reducing kapha-accumulating foods would be beneficial. This includes avoiding dairy products as much as possible, instead opting for warming spices like ginger, turmeric, and black pepper in your meals which help with congestion and are good for boosting your agni, or digestive fire.

Start your day with a glass of warm water mixed with a small amount of honey and lemon, to help clear any overnight mucus build-up. Drinking warm herbal teas, like tulsi or ginger tea, throughout the day helps in managing symptoms. In Ayurveda, warm, cooked foods are preferred. So include soups and warm, freshly cooked meals instead of cold and stale ones.

Nasya therapy, which involves applying herbal oil to nostrils, can be quite helpful. Ayurvedic oils like Anu taila promote sinus clearing and respiratory function. A drop or two, administered in each nostril, can provide relief. However, consult with a local Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure these are suitable for you.

Steam inhalation with eucalyptus oil can provide symptomatic relief. Perform this once or twice daily when you feel congested.

Practicing yoga and pranayama, particularly breathing exercises like Bhastrika and Kapalbhati, assist in improving lung capacity and reducing respiratory symptoms. These should ideally be done in the morning.

Ensure you maintain a regular sleeping schedule and try to avoid heavy meals at night, which may aggravate symptoms. Stress can contribute to your symptoms, so consider integrating routine relaxation techniques such as meditation.

Remember, it’s important you visit an Ayurvedic physician in person, especially since tailored care is vital for managing long-term conditions. Also, though your age allows experimentation with these methods, always keep abreast with any potential changes in your symptoms. If there’s a sudden worsening, do reach out to a healthcare professional.
