how to take triphala churna at night - #23221

Julian

I am really confused about how to take triphala churna at night. So, I read that it can be super beneficial for digestion and detoxing, especially before bed. But, like, what's the right way to do it? I tried mixing it with warm water once, but honestly, the taste was hard to handle! 😅 Last week, I had this really bloated feeling after dinner and thought maybe taking it at night would help, but I ended up not sleeping well. Should I take it with something else? Or is there a better time to take triphala churna? I just want to feel good and figure this out!

Taking triphala churna at night can indeed be beneficial, especially for digestion and detoxification. It’s a classic Ayurvedic preparation known for balancing all three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. However, how you take it matters because, well, the taste isn't everyone's cup of tea. First off, about the taste, it can be intense, for sure! A useful tip is to mix about half to one teaspoon of triphala churna (not a big fan of using overall measurements, are we?) with warm water, but try adding a teaspoon of honey to adjust the taste but avoid heating honey, it should be added to the warm mixture just before you consume it. Honey has a similar warming effect and can naturally complement the qualities of triphala. If you've experienced trouble sleeping after taking it, this could be due to its slight laxative properties. For some people, triphala increases bowel movements which could disrupt sleep if taken too close to bedtime. You might want to try taking it an hour before bed instead, allowing your body ample time to process before it’s time to sleep. Concerning your bloated feeling last week, it could be that your agni or digestive fire was weak. In addition to taking triphala, make sure to eat a lighter dinner, preferably a few hours before you sleep. Sipping on warm ginger water during meals can also help kindle this digestive fire. Alternatively, if the taste of triphala in water is still too tough, you could try it in tablet form, which should be available at Ayurvedic stores. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes personalization, so finding the most effective use of triphala for your body type and condition may need some experimentation. Along that, don’t forget to balance your meal with foods that suit your dosha type too. Always consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner if you're unsure, especially if symptoms persist or worsen.
