Doctors' responses

Hashimoto’s, a condition closely linked to imbalances in the body’s doshas, particularly kapha and vata, can make it challenging to gain weight. To boost your weight naturally and improve overall health, it’s essential to focus on strengthening your agni (digestive fire).

Diet is important here: aim for nourishing, grounding foods. Consider including healthy fats in your diet, like ghee and sesame oil, which help balance vata and are grounding. Warm, cooked meals with spices like cumin, ginger and fennel can support digestion and enhance agni. Avoid cold, dry foods, which might aggrevate vata.

A key aspect of managing mood swings and promoting better digestion might be a regular routine. Prioritize consistent meal times - eat breakfast within an hour upon waking. Regular meals keep vata in check. Try incorporating yoga or light exercise to boost metabolism gently without over-exertion.

For periods, as observed in Ayurveda, less bleeding may indicate an imbalance in apana vata. Sipping warm water and indulging in calming activities like meditation may support balance. Don’t skip rest; ensure restful evenings to support reproductive health.

Ashwagandha, a known adaptogen, might fortify the body’s stress response and can help with mood swings. Consult with a qualified practitioner before incorporating it, especially considering existing medications.

Considering your condition, make sure to have regular thyroid function tests to monitor levels, preventing potential complications. In situations requiring urgent medical attention, prioritize medical guidance to address symptoms swiftly and prevent adverse outcomes. Working closely with both your Ayurvedic and medical practitioners will guide you toward a safer recovery.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
