You’re dealing with a complex condition, and managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using Ayurveda might help with some symptoms alongside your current treatments, but should not replace them. Let’s explore some aspects of Ayurvedic lifestyle and diet that might support your body.
Firstly, observing your symptoms and considering Prakriti, it’s possible you have a Vata-Pitta imbalance. Vata imbalances can often manifest as dryness, anxiety, and loss of focus, while Pitta imbalances might contribute to inflammation and digestive disturbances. To calm these elements, we should focus on a balancing, nourishing lifestyle.
Diet plays a crucial role. Incorporate warm, moist, and easily digestible foods into your routine. Think of kitchari, a simple Indian dish made of rice and mung dal, which is very digestive-friendly. Spices such as ginger, cumin, and fennel can support agni (digestive fire) without aggravating inflammation. Avoid cold, raw, and deep-fried foods as they can disturb Vata and Pitta further.
Hydration is essential. Warm water and herbal teas like fennel or chamomile could help soothe inflammation and reduce dryness. Stay away from caffeinated beverages that can increase dryness and anxiety.
For skin and dry eyes, applying ghee in small amounts to your food provides internal lubrication and may also help soothe your digestive system. Additionally, topical applications of soothing oils like coconut; applied gently can help with dry skin and the anal area, but ensure there’s no active infection or wound.
Practicing quiet reflection or meditation can assist in easing anxiety. Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb, is known for its stress-reducing properties and might assist in grounding Vata if taken with the supervision of a practitioner.
Maintain your regular medical check-ups and follow your current medical treatment plan. Collaborating with your healthcare provider and consulting with a qualified Ayurvedic physician will help tailor these suggestions to your specific condition and health history.

The Flare up come with loose motion and very bad back pain with which I could not breathe as well.
Post-surgery and ongoing treatment for inflammatory bowel disease like yours indeed warrants a careful approach to manage symptoms and reduce inflammation. Here are some steps from a Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective that might help alleviate your condition:
First, addressing digestion is crucial. You might benefit from maintaining a diet that’s easy to digest and calming for the gut. Consider taking a decoction of cooked rice water with ghee as it helps in soothing the digestive tract. Use half a cup warm rice water mixed with one teaspoon of ghee before meals. This should help enhance agni, or your digestive fire, which is often disrupted in such conditions.
For loss of appetite and loose motion, the herb Amla (Indian Gooseberry) can be beneficial as it is known to balance all the doshas and rejuvenate the gut. You can take Amla powder with warm water daily. Make sure the dosage should not exceed 3-6 grams daily, considering your current medications.
Your dry skin and dry eyes suggest there’s an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which can be soothed by regular Abhyanga (self-massage) with warm sesame oil. This supports both skin moisture and a serene mind. Perform this calming ritual in the morning for about 15-20 minutes, before a warm bath.
For stress and anxiety, you might find relief in a mix of warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg at bedtime which is an excellent Vata pacifier and aids in restful sleep, also keeping the mind calm.
Loss of focus can be improved through regular practice of pranayama, particularly Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing). This regulates energy channels and supports mental clarity. Start with 5 minutes daily in a peaceful environment, gradually increasing the duration.
Remember, the condition of the bowel involves vital organs, so continue your medical follow-up. Coordination with your healthcare provider is essential to ensure that these practices align with your ongoing treatments.
