Parkinsonâs disease requires specialized medical management, typically overseen by a neurologist. Ayurvedic approaches can be complementary but itâs important to continue with your neurologistâs recommendations. Rasalact (Rasagiline) is a common medication for Parkinsonâs, and your neurologist will manage it best.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, balancing the Vata dosha is essential. Parkinsonâs, with its associated symptoms like tremors and weakness, relates to Vata imbalance. You can incorporate a few lifestyle and dietary changes that might help.
For the frequent urination, avoid diuretics like caffeine and increase intake of Luke warm water in the morning instead of drinks that irritate the bladder. Try incorporating Triphala in your routine. Take a teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm water before bedtime to help improve digestion and regularity.
Weakness and memory issues can both be approached through diet and lifestyle. Focus on nourishing the body with warm, cooked foods that are easy to digest; ghee can be particularly beneficial as it supports body tissues. Incorporate Ashwagandha and Brahmi, well known for supporting neurological and physical strength. Add 1/2 teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder in "warm milk in the evenings, and take Brahmi as a supplement as per instructions on the package or with the guidance of a healthcare provider.
Regular practice of yoga and pranayama (like anulom vilom, and bhramari) can help enhance overall strength, improve sleep, and balance Vata. Ensure a routine of going to bed and getting up at the same time each day, to help regulate your bodyâs internal clock; this might alleviate disturbances caused by frequent urination.
For digestion, avoid cold foods, excessively spicy or oily meals. Incorporating cooked vegetables and unsweetened yogurt into your diet can help nourish your digestion. Consider a gentle daily detox using warm lemon water every morning before your breakfast to stimulate digestion.
Continued medical observation is crucial for Parkinsonâs and any new or worsening symptoms, like increasing weakness or forgetfulness, should be consulted with your healthcare provider immediately.
Alongside any treatments your neurologist prescribes, there are some Siddha-Ayurvedic recommendations that might support your overall well-being. Your symptoms suggest vata imbalance, which can contribute to neurological issues, digestive challenges, and frequent urination. Weâll address digestive health, urinary symptoms, and general weakness.
First, focus on balancing vata. Try including warming foods into your diet, like cooked vegetables, soups, and stews. Use spices like ginger, cumin, and fennel, which can aid digestion. A regular warm oil massage using sesame oil can help calm vata and provide grounding.
For your digestion, consider taking Triphala at night. This traditional herbal blend supports digestive function. Soak 1 teaspoon in warm water for about 10 minutes, and drink it before bed. Also, drink warm ginger tea in the morning to kindle the digestive fire.
To manage frequent urination, drink a decoction prepared from coriander seeds. Boil 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds in 2 cups of water until reduced by half, strain, and drink it once a day. Limit fluid intake an hour before sleep.
For overall strength, ashwagandha could be beneficial. Itâs known to support muscle tone and energy levels. Take 1/2 teaspoon with warm milk in the morning.
If symptoms worsen or youâre experiencing severe weakness or faintness, contact a healthcare provider promptly to address potential serious concerns. Balancing vata and supporting digestion can be step in the right direction, but consistent follow-ups with your medical specialist are crucial.
