how to relief from cough - #23853

Isabella

I am feeling really stuck here! For the past couple of weeks, I just can't shake off this nagging cough. It started, like, after I caught a cold from my kids who brought home some virus from school. I thought it would go away, but nope! Now it feels like every night I'm tossing and turning because of this cough. I've tried drinking warm water and honey, but it doesn't help much! I even used some over-the-counter syrups, but they just give me temporary relief. I’m wondering how to relief from cough more effectively, especially since I’m back to work and it’s super embarrassing when I start coughing during meetings! I heard about some Ayurvedic remedies but not sure what to try? Any suggestions on how to relief from cough naturally? I’d love to hear what worked for others! Help me out, please!

In Ayurveda, a persistent cough often links to an imbalance in the kapha dosha, leading to excess mucus production and congestion. Addressing this with ayurvedic principles can be quite effective. First, consider integrating herbal teas into your daily routine. A tea made from holy basil (Tulsi), ginger, and licorice root might help. You can easily prepare it by steeping 1-2 teaspoons of these herbs in hot water for about 10 minutes. Drinking this 2-3 times daily could gently soothe your cough while uplifting your prana (vital energy). Next, pay attention to your diet. Foods high in mucus can worsen the problem, so it's best to avoid dairy, fried foods, and sugar. Opt for a diet rich in warm, lightly cooked foods with lots of spices like cumin, turmeric, and black pepper. These spices ease digestion and help balance kapha. Be sure to include plenty of vegetables and whole grains to support your agni, or digestion fire. Steamy inhalation is beneficial, especially when done with eucalyptus or peppermint oil – just a few drops in boiling water can do wonders. Simply inhale the steam for around 10 minutes, once or twice a day. It can clear nasal passages and give relief from congestion. Furthermore, a spoonful of turmeric powder mixed with warm milk, taken at night, has been known to ease sore throats and suppress coughs. Simply add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to a cup of warm milk; consume it before bedtime to have a restful sleep. In terms of lifestyle, make sure you are getting plenty of rest, and keep hydrated to help your body heal. Moreover, regular yoga practice concerning deep breathing exercises like pranayama could strengthen your lung function and reduce cough intensity. If it persists, or you notice other serious symptoms, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues. Integrating ayurvedic practices into your lifestyle, with patience, can significantly improve your cough and overall health sensation.
