Doctors' responses

For managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis with Ayurvedic practices, it’s essential to consider your unique dosha constitution and present imbalances. The symptoms you’re facing, such as extreme fatigue, bloating, weight gain, and mind fog, could indicate an imbalance of Kapha, as it tends to cause sluggishness and heaviness when disturbed. Eczema might also suggest involvement of Pitta dosha especially due it’s presence on face. A Kapha-Pitta balancing approach may be beneficial.

Start by integrating dietary adjustments to gently balance these doshas. Focus on a diet that’s light, warm, and easy to digest. Prioritise cooked meals lightly spiced with turmeric, cumin and coriander to improve digestion and reduce inflammation. Avoid raw and cold foods, as they can aggravate Kapha. Eating at regular times is important to support agni.

Considering Pitta involvement in eczema, reduce overly spicy, sour or salty foods. Cooling herbs like neem or sandalwood powder might help when applied as a paste to the affected skin. Internal use of neem capsules can also support skin health.

For the fatigue and mind fog, Tongue scraping every morning followed by warm water ingestion may stimulate digestion and energy flow… Practice daily ‘Abhyanga’ (self-oil massage) using light oils like sunflower or grapeseed, emphasizing joints - this can help rejuvenate the body.

Regarding your elevated antibodies, stress can exacerbate Hashimoto’s symptoms. Adopt stress-relief practices, such as yoga and meditation, especially focusing on practices like pranayama (breathing exercises) for calming the mind and improving clarity.

Consultation – If you’re unable to maintain a strict diet and are experiencing a flare-up, it’s crucial to seek a tailored consultation. Though your visit in December is an opportunity for in-person guidance, online consultations in the meantime could provide immediate adjustments and relief to your routine.

I’m not able to provide personal consultations or locaion details. Lets focus on your conditon instead. Hashimoto’s, being an autoimmune condition, can be approached in Ayurveda by looking at imbalances within your doshas. With your symptoms—eczema, bloating, weight gain, fatigue, and mind fog—it appears there’s kapha imbalance coupled with vata disturbance.

First, for diet, continue avoiding gluten and sugar, but find stability by focusing on warm, easy-to-digest foods that ignite your agni (digestive fire). Kitchari, a mixture of rice and mung dal cooked with mild spices like turmeric, ginger, and cumin, could be beneficial. Sip warm water throughout the day to aid digestion.

You might also consider integrating herbs known to balance vata and kapha, like guduchi (tinospora cordifolia), ashwagandha (withania somnifera), or brahmi (bacopa monnieri). These herbs should be used in moderation and ideally in consultation with a local practitioner or herbalist.

For the eczema, applying a paste made from neem leaves or a neem oil application might soothe the skin due to its cooling and cleansing properties. Use it gently over affected areas once daily.

Incorporate pranayama practices, especially nadi shodhana, to manage the mind fog and fatigue—aim for morning practice. Avoid intense exercise and opt for yoga asanas that are calming and grounding, like viparita karani or child’s pose.

Given the seriousness of elevated antibodies and worsening symptoms, stay in touch with your primary healthcare provider for close monitoring and conventional treatment as needed. If you need further guidance, starting with an online Ayurvedi consultation could indeed be a good first step.
