can we drink beetroot juice in evening - #38724

Asher

I am really curious about beetroot juice. I’ve heard people rave about its health benefits, but I’m not sure about when to drink it. Lately, I've been trying to clean up my diet after feeling kinda sluggish and bloated all the time. My friend mentioned that drinking beetroot juice could help with digestion and energy, especially if you drink it in the morning, but can we drink beetroot juice in evening too? I tried having it once in the afternoon, and honestly, it was kinda delicious! But then I started wondering... What if it keeps me up at night? I mean, I’ve read beetroot juice can boost stamina and even improve blood flow, so does that mean I’d be wired after drinking it later in the day? Other times, I’ve heard people say it helps them sleep better too? It’s all a bit confusing! Do I need to avoid it in the evening altogether? Like, would drinking it after dinner have any bad effects? Or is it actually okay? I wish I could get some clear answers because I really wanna include beetroot juice but can’t figure out what's best!

Doctors' responses

Yes, you can drink beetroot juice in the evening, but it’s important to consider a few key points based on Ayurvedic principles and the properties of beetroot itself. Beetroot is known to be heavy and sweet by nature. It is especially rich in iron and folic acid, making it nourishing and helpful for the blood. From an Ayurvedic perspective, beetroot has a cooling effect on the body and is considered to be grounding, it primarily balances Vata and Pitta doshas while it could mildly vitiate Kapha due to its sweetness and heaviness.

Drinking beetroot juice in the evening can be a refreshing option, but timing and moderation are crucial. Generally, it is recommended in Ayurveda to consume stimulating or energizing foods earlier in the day, when the body’s digestion and metabolic activities are more active. However, if yo feel comfortable after experimenting with beetroot juice in the afternoon, you might probably do well with it in the evening too.

It’s suggested to have beetroot juice a little while before dinner, giving your body sufficient time to start processing it. Drinking it right after dinner or right before bed might feel heavy on the stomach for some people, potentially causing bloating or indigestion. If you experience this, try to avoid it post dinner. Also, as it might mildly energize you by improving blood flow, it is best to observe how your body individually reacts.

In the case of sleep, people’s response to foods varies. While there are claims within modern interpretations that some find beetroot juice promotes better sleep, you’ll need to note how it aligns with your body’s rhythm and adjust accordingly. Start with small quantities in the evening to gauge its effect on your energy levels and digestion.

Ensure beetroot juice is fresh and without added sugars to maintain its benefits, keeping portion control in mind to avoid excessive Kapha aggravation. Incorporating ginger or a pinch of black pepper may enhance digestion. Always align such dietary changes with your dosha balance and overall lifestyle for optimal results. If underlying health issues persist, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for tailored guidance.
