For a long-term ayurvedic diet that supports muscle growth and overall health, focus first on understanding your dosha, which are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Since you’re into regular gym workouts, it’s likely Pitta-dominant aspects will be involved, reflecting elements such as fire and water, so balancing this is critcal.
Incorporate a grounding breakfast one thats nourishing but not overly heavy. Oatmeal cooked in almond milk with a sprinkle of cardamom and chopped nuts can provide energy. The nuts add healthy fats and proteins, important for muscle repair.
Lunch is best centered around a balanced, complete meal for strong digestion at midday. Incorporate quinoa, lentils, or a mix of whole grains (like brown rice), paired with seasonal vegetables. Cook with turmeric, cumin, and a tad of ghee for added flavor and digestion enhancement.
Post-workout, avoid raw foods; instead, go for something easier to digest like a smoothie made from almond milk, ripe bananas, and a spoon of ashwagandha powder which supports muscle recovery.
Dinner should be lighter to ease digestion before sleep. Consider kichari, a mix of lentils and rice with light spices (like coriander and turmeric) - balancing Vata and Pitta, help with muscle growth while not overwhelming your system overnight.
Hydrate well throughout the day with warm water or herbal teas. Avoid iced drinks which can disturb digestive fires. Abhyanga, a self-oil massage with warm sesame oil, once a week, can also support muscle and joint health.
Eat mindfully, give time for proper chewing, and try to eat at regular intervals to support Agni, the digestive fire. Remember, this should all be adjusted to your own body’s feedback and changing needs.
