For the underactive thyroid, known as hypothyroidism, Ayurvedic principles emphasize the balance of Vata dosha and the support of agni, the digestive fire, for optimizing thyroid function. Since you’re already managing your diet by eliminating gluten and noticing some positive changes like weight loss, let’s delve into more specific strategies that might help support your energy levels and overall thyroid health, keeping your unique constitution in mind.

Start with your daily routine, ensure waking with the sunrise, as regular exposure to morning natural light can support hormonal balance. An oil massage with warm sesame oil before morning shower can help ground Vata dosha and improve circulation, which might indirectly support better energy levels.

In terms of diet, include warming, cooked foods that support agni and nourish dhatus. Kitchari, made with brown rice and mung dal, can be a great staple. Add warming spices like cumin, ginger, and turmeric to your meals; they can stimulate metabolism and aid digestion. Avoid cold, raw foods as they can dampen agni and exacerbate Vata imbalance.

Herbal support can also be valuable; Ashwagandha is often recommended for thyroid support, as it may help stimulate thyroid hormone production. Take ashwagandha powder (churna) in a dose of 1 teaspoon with warm milk, in the evening. Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) is another herb to consider, known for its rejuvenating property.

Keep hydration in balance: not too much or too little. Sip warm water throughout the day to help maintain proper digestion and support the movement of Vata dosha.

Regular physical activity that is gentle yet stimulating, like yoga, can aid in maintaining energy. Meditative pranayama practices such as Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) help in reducing stress, which can further help thyroid function.

Avoid strenuous activities or fasting for long periods, as they could aggravate Vata. If fatigue persists, consulting with Ayurveda doctor for a personalized plan is recommended.
