Doctors' responses

Experiencing hand shaking and sensations, especially after having fever, can be unsettling. These hand tremors might be because of an imbalance in Vata dosha, which governs movement and is sometimes aggravated by cold, stress, and irregular eating or sleeping patterns. The sensation and need for specific sleeping positions might indicate muscle tension or nerve-related issues. Feeling cold often could also suggest a Vata imbalance or a need to enhance the body’s Agni, or digestive fire.

To help balance Vata, you might consider regular warm oil massage, known in Ayurveda as Abhyanga, using sesame oil as it’s warming and nourishing. Do this gently, especially around the arms and shoulders, before a warm bath or shower. Maintaining a routine can also stabilize Vata. Try to eat at the same times each day, and prefer warm, cooked and spiced foods like soups or stews, which are easier to digest and help to stimulate Agni.

Shatavari, Ashwagandha, and Brahmi are herbs traditionally recommended for calming the nervous system and enhancing energy. However, it’s important to consult with a qualfied Ayurveda practitioner before starting any herbal regimen, especially at a young age, to ensure suitability and safety.

Ensure you stay warm by wearing layers, as this can help reduce the cold sensation due to Vata imbalance. Regular and moderate exercise like yoga can also be very beneficial, improving circulation and reducing stress.

However, given your symptoms began after fever and include breathing difficulty, this could indicate underlying respiratory or neurological issues that should not be ignored. It’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional promptly for a thorough evaluation to determine if there’s a need for specific medical intervention. Safety and medical guidance are paramount, and better to seek a check-up to rule out any serious conditions.

The symptoms you’re describing, such as the shaking or shivering of your hand, sensations throughout the day, and feelings of coldness, may indicate an imbalance in your vata dosha. The vata dosha governs movement and sensory functions, and when it is disturbed, it can result in these kinds of symptoms. Experiencing difficulties breathing, especially after a recent fever and cold, suggests that your respiratory system might also be recovering from the infection.

Given this, your health situation may improve with some lifestyle and dietary adjustments aligned with Siddha-Ayurvedic principles:

1. Diet: Incorporate warm, nourishing foods into your meals. Root vegetables like sweet potatoes and carrots, healthy oils such as sesame or ghee, and easily digestible dal soups can help ground vata. Avoid cold, raw foods, and drinks as they can aggravate vata further.

2. Routine: Establish a regular daily routine. Going to bed and waking up at the same time daily helps stabilize vata. Aim for adequate sleep to allow your body to heal.

3. Hydration: Drink warm lemon water or herbal teas like ginger or tulsi, which can improve circulation and help with cold sensations.

4. Ayurvedic Oils: Using warm sesame oil for a massage (abhyanga) helps calm vata and can reduce tremors. Apply it gently to the affected hand and overall body before a warm bath.

5. Breathing Exercises: Practice deep breathing exercises like pranayama to strengthen your respiratory system. Nadi shodhana or alternate nostril breathing can be particularly balancing for vata.

As always, it’s essential for any new or worsening symptoms to be evaluated by a healthcare professional promptly. If you experience more severe symptoms, such as persistent breathing difficulties, or if the shaking worsens, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial to rule out any serious conditions.
