Having laparoscopic surgery, particularly through the belly button, can potentially affect the functioning and positioning of the navel due to the surgical interventions in that area. However, navel pulling, or “nabhi chikitsa” as known in Ayurveda, can still be beneficial post-surgery, though you may need to approach it a bit differently based on your unique situation.

When laparoscopic surgery is performed, incisions are made that may affect the soft tissues and ligaments around the navel. This can cause shifts or tensions in the abdominal muscles and fascia, which might alter how effective traditional navel pulling techniques are. But it doesn’t completely sever the benefits. It might be necessary, though to first ensure that any surgical incision has completely healed before pursuing such treatments.

Post-surgery, focusing on gentle abdominal massages and mild stretches could help restore natural alignment. Consider starting with gentle exercises like yoga asanas that promote abdominal strength and flexibility, such as Bhujangasana (cobra pose) or Pawanmuktasana (wind-relieving pose), but only once your doctor has cleared you for such activities. These can promote circulation and ease any discomfort around the navel area.

Ayurveda also emphasis the importance of a stable digestive fire or ‘agni’. Post-surgery, supporting your agni with a warm, easily digestible diet can facilitate healing. Consuming warm ghee, turmeric milk, or spices like fennel and ginger can be beneficial. Always synchronize these with your individual dosha and post-operative dietary restrictions advised by your healthcare provider.
