Quitting gutkha, especially after a dependency has developed, can be challenging, but Ayurveda offers several strategies to support the withdrawal and recovery process. Gutkha may disturb your vata and pitta doshas, leading to anxiety and restlessness when you try to quit. Addressing this imbalance is key.

1. Herbal Support: Consider Triphala, which helps detoxify and support the digestive system. You can take 1 teaspoon of Triphala powder mixed in warm water before bed. Ashwagandha is another beneficial herb for calming anxiety and reducing stress levels. Use tablets or powder, around 300mg-500mg twice daily, with warm milk or water.

2. Dietary Adjustments: Favor foods that calm vata, avoid excessively spicy or fermented foods that can increase pitta. Incorporate warm soups and stews, oatmeal, cooked vegetables like sweet potatoes and root vegetables, and use spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric rather than pepper or chilies. Stay hydrated with cooling fluids like coconut water.

3. Routine & Lifestyle Changes: Maintain a consistent daily routine. Regular sleep pattern, planned mealtimes, and moderate exercise like yoga or brisk walking help stabilize doshas. Consider deep breathing exercises or pranayama, particularly anulom-vilom, for calming nervous system. Practice twice daily for around 10 minutes.

4. Nasya Therapy: Use Anu Taila (medicated oil) for nasal administration. Put 2-3 drops in each nostril in the morning. It balances vata and strengthens the nervous system, thus helping to reduce cravings. Do this under the guidance of a practitioner.

5. Professional Support: Seeking help from a qualified Ayurvedic doctor can be beneficial. They might recommend personalized formulations or therapies like Shirodhara, which deeply relaxes the mind.

Consider these steps as a holistic approach. Remember that persistence is important, and gradual reduction may be necessary. If your withdrawal symptoms become severe or unmanageable, please consult healthcare provider promptly to ensure the best care.
