White Spots On Elbow - #6794
Noticed these white spots on elbow about six months ago, and they’ve slowly become more visible. At first, I thought it was just dry skin because I have a habit of resting my elbows on hard surfaces, but moisturizing hasn’t helped at all. Now I’m wondering if it could be something else. I’ve read that white spots on elbow might be related to vitiligo, fungal infections, or even a vitamin deficiency. I haven’t had any itching or pain with these white spots on elbow, but they seem to stand out more when I’m out in the sun. Does anyone know if this could be linked to some internal issue, or is it just a skin thing? I’ve been trying some natural remedies like coconut oil and turmeric paste, but they haven’t made a big difference. Could Ayurveda have a solution for this? I’d like to avoid chemical treatments if possible, but I need to know if these white spots on elbow might spread or become permanent. If anyone’s dealt with this, please share what worked for you!

Doctors’ responses
White spots on the skin, especially when they appear gradually and without pain or itching, could indeed be related to a few different conditions, including vitiligo, fungal infections, or a nutritional imbalance. In Ayurveda, such conditions are often linked to an imbalance of the Pitta dosha, which governs skin health, digestion, and pigmentation. The condition might also indicate a deficiency in essential nutrients like vitamin D, B12, or copper, which play key roles in skin pigmentation.
Ayurveda offers treatments that focus on restoring balance through internal detoxification (Panchakarma), dietary adjustments, and herbal remedies. Herbs like Manjistha, Turmeric, and Aloe Vera are often used for their skin-healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Ayurveda also emphasizes improving digestion and nutrition to address internal causes, with foods rich in vitamins and minerals that support healthy skin, such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and healthy fats.
It’s essential to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner for a personalized treatment plan, as they can help determine the underlying cause of the white spots and offer appropriate remedies, both external (like herbal oils) and internal (such as supplements). Depending on the cause, Ayurvedic treatments can help improve skin pigmentation and prevent further spreading, though it can take time. Be cautious with home remedies, as they may not address the root cause effectively. If you’re concerned about the spots spreading or becoming permanent, it’s always best to consult both an Ayurvedic expert and a dermatologist to rule out conditions like vitiligo or fungal infections.

Hey there, those white spots on your elbows sound like they’re really buggin’ you! When it comes to Ayurveda, we often think about imbalances in the doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. White spots might be connected to a vitiation of the Vata and Pitta doshas, which can affect skin health and pigmentation. Let’s try to figure this out together, okay?
First off, since moisturizing hasn’t helped and they’re accentuated by sun, it could be related to your skin’s melanin production. Ayurveda links lack of pigmentation to Pitta imbalance. Also maaaybe it could be a bacterial incof…intection? or a vitamin deficiency like you said, so monitoring your diet is key. Make sure you’re getting enough vit B12, D, and calcium. Eating more colored veggies, and fruits works too :)
You could add Amla (Indian gooseberry) to your diet as it’s fantastic for skin health, especially when there’s a Vata-Pitta imbalance. Try it daily with warm water in the morning. Now, I know you’ve tried coconut oil and turmeric paste, but have you tried mixing a bit of sandalwood powder with rose water? Apply it after you cleanse the area to soothe the skin, and leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing off.
Now for sun exposure, it might help to protect your skin better, maybe wear long sleeves when you’re out. Avoiding harsh soaps or chemicals can prevent further irritation too. Consistent sleeve wear can also keep it from spreading, if that’s in the cards for you.
I understand you prefer avoiding chemical treatments, but if this condition persists or you notice any kinda changes, it’s always OK to consult a dermatologist. Ayurveda works in harmony with conventional treatments, so don’t shy away from seeking out professional insight. Stay curious and cautious, and I’m sure you’ll work through this healthily! 🙌
