What Are the Benefits of Massage Ayurvedic Compared to Regular Massages? - #13839

James

I’ve always thought of massages as something to relax muscles, but recently I heard about massage ayurvedic and how it’s completely different from the regular spa massages I’m used to. People say it’s not just about relaxing muscles but also about improving energy flow, balancing doshas, and detoxifying the body. From what I understand, massage ayurvedic uses herbal oils that are selected based on a person’s body type. Is this true? How do you find out which oil is best for you? And is the massage itself different—like, do they use different techniques compared to regular massages? Also, I heard that after massage ayurvedic, you’re not supposed to shower immediately because the herbal oils need time to absorb. How long should you wait? And is it normal to feel tired after the massage, or should you feel more energetic? If anyone has tried massage ayurvedic, please share your experience! How did it feel compared to a regular massage, and did you notice long-term benefits?

Massage Ayurvedic is indeed very different from regular spa massages. It focuses on balancing the doshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), improving energy flow, and detoxifying the body using herbal oils tailored to your body type (Prakriti). Abhyanga is one of the most common Ayurvedic massages, and it typically uses long, rhythmic strokes to promote circulation and lymphatic drainage—unlike the deep tissue or Swedish techniques of regular massages.

To determine the best oil, a therapist usually assesses your dosha imbalance. Vata types often use warming oils like sesame, Pitta types benefit from cooling oils like coconut or sandalwood, and Kapha types may use lighter, stimulating oils.

After the massage, it’s recommended to wait at least 1-2 hours before showering to allow the oils to penetrate the skin. Feeling tired or relaxed initially is common, but many report increased energy and better sleep later. Over time, Ayurvedic massages can help with joint mobility, stress relief, and overall balance.

You’re onto something! Massage Ayurvedic, or abhyanga, is a lot more than just muscle relaxation—it’s grounded in ancient Ayurvedic principles aimed at balancing your individual dosha, detoxifying the body, and enhancing overall vitality. Yeah, you totally got that right about the oils. They pick herbal oils based on your dosha type—vata, pitta, or kapha. Figuring out your oil isn’t all that tricky. An experienced Ayurvedic practitioner will usually assess your prakriti (your natural constitution) which helps determine the most suitable oil blend for you.

The technique is indeed different too. Ayurvedic massages often use synchronized movements, with the aim of improving energy flow and strengthening the tissues (dhatus). Circular motions on the joints and long strokes on the limbs—that’s the typical flow. Regular massages often focus more on kneading muscles to relieve tension, right?

About the post-massage thing. It’s true, you’re generally advised not to shower instantly after. The oils are part of the treatment, so giving them at least an hour or so to absorb is usually recommended. This ensures the herbs penetrate deeper and have a longer-lasting effect.

Feeling groggy is normal actually! It’s a sign that your body is processing the detoxification—moving out those toxins isn’t easy work. You should however, gradually start feeling more balanced and energetic as your body adapts.

As for long-term benefits, a lot of people say they experience clearer skin, improved digestion, and better mental focus after adopting regular abhyanga. These shifts take time, it’s not an overnight miracle. It’s about consistency, aligning your lifestyle with your unique constitution, y’know? Anyway, it could be worth a try if you’re looking to enhance your overall well-being through Ayurveda.
