Stomach pain and throat inflammation - #19769

Albert

I am having stomach pains for a coulple of months now. I had several scans of the abdomen done late last year: I had 4 ultrasound scans from various service providers, al who said that I have a paraumbilical hernia. I also had a CT scan and got same results. At times I experience bloating. My appetite is normal and at times I actually limit myself for food that I may crave for. I have been avoiding sugary foods. I do simple body exercises as usual without any difficulties. Recently, I have experienced throat pain and I had an endoscope examination yesterday, to which the doctor said there is an inflammation. He said the stomach looks OK. He recommended some antiinflamatory oral drug that I am using and a gastrointestinal drug for acid reflux. May you please help me anyhow to compat the challenges?

Hi Albert,

1. How is your digestion overall—do you experience gas, heartburn, or discomfort after eating certain foods, particularly acidic or spicy ones? 2. Do you feel more bloating after eating or at specific times of the day? 3. Have you noticed any emotional stress or anxiety that may be contributing to your stomach and throat issues?

Ah, I can see why you’re looking for some alternative help through Ayurveda for your ongoing symptoms, it must be frustrating! So the hernia is a structural issue; the scans confirmed that, right? But about inflammation and recent throat pain, this might be linked to your body’s agni – that’s the digestive fire we talk about in Ayurveda. An imbalance can lead to a buildup of toxins ('ama’), which could contribute to both the bloating and throat inflammation.

Given that you’re on certain medications now, it’s essential to balance Ayurvedic practices carefully. Encouraging better digestion is a good start! Try sipping on warm water throughout the day, it’s simple but can boost agni and help mobilize ama. You might also consider taking a ginger tea. Fresh ginger with a squeeze of lemon can really soothe and help digestion first thing in the morning – just let it brew for 5 minutes.

For your throat, gargling with warm turmeric and salt water may help reduce inflammation. A teaspoon of turmeric and half a teaspoon of salt in lukewarm water should work. Do this 1-2 times a day.

Bloating can improve with small shifts in your eating habits. Alongside avoiding sugary foods, have consistent meal times and chew food thoroughly – really chewing the food into a paste helps in pre-digestion.

Stick with your normal exercise, but if it’s okay, some yoga twists could aid digestion. Nothing vigorous but gentle lying twists, definitely avoid straining due to the hernia.

All this should complement your current treatments and help your body stability. And do keep communicating with your healthcare provider about all the remedies you’re trying, really important they know everything. If pain persists, of course, follow up on that right away!
