Throat problems - #19997

Ad shahinur Rahman

My main problem is inside my throat. My voice breaks when I speak loudly. My throat itches sometimes. Sometimes I have trouble breathing. I take Montelukast 10, Fexo 120, and it is a little less. It seems to be inflammation inside the airway. I have a reaction in my throat to a strong smell. I cannot pray during prayer. I have problems with my throat. When I overdo it, it is difficult to even speak. My airway becomes narrow. It is difficult to prostrate. I have lost about 15 kg of weight. I wake up at night, my heart palpitations increase. I had an endoscopy done on my throat and no problems were found. Hbs-ag positive HBV DNA PCR undetected.

पुरानी बीमारियाँ: I saw a chest and ear, nose, and throat doctor, but no problems were found.

Hello,

Could you share if you have any history of allergies, or if you’ve experienced frequent coughing or mucus buildup? Is the difficulty breathing worse at night, or after exposure to specific triggers like strong smells or weather changes? Also, do you notice any increase in symptoms with stress or physical exertion?

In Ayurveda, your symptoms may indicate an imbalance in Vata and Kapha doshas, leading to dryness, irritation, and narrowing of the airway. I recommend using Tulsi (Holy Basil) and Licorice for soothing the throat and reducing inflammation. Drinking warm water with a pinch of turmeric and honey can help calm the irritation. Practicing gentle breathing exercises like Pranayama can also help in improving lung function and relieving the feeling of tightness.

Hello Sir, Thanks for sharing your concern. This looks like a case of aggravated Vata and Pitta doshas. Throat irritation is due to Ama (toxins) and inflammation. Possible underlying imbalance of digestive fire (Agni) leading to reflux.

Diet & Lifestyle: Avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods. Eat light and easily digestible meals. Stay hydrated with lukewarm water. Avoid exposure to strong smells and pollutants. Practice gentle breathing exercises (Anulom Vilom, Bhramari Pranayama). Medicines: Yashtimadhu Churna (Licorice Powder) – 1 tsp with warm water twice a day for gargling to soothe the throat. Sitopaladi Churna – 1/4 tsp with honey twice a day for throat irritation.

Kantakari Syrup – 10 ml twice a day after meals with lukewarm water to relieve throat irritation and support respiratory health. Monitoring LFT levels is mandatory, if symptoms persist further testing is required, PFT may be.

Your symptoms suggest a complex interplay of factors that may require a holistic approach. It seems like you are already following a medical treatment with Montelukast and Fexofenadine, which are typically used for managing allergies and airway inflammation. Since your condition was not fully resolved with these, considering Ayurvedic principles might offer some additional support.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, throat problems often indicate imbalances in the Kapha dosha, however considering symptoms like weight loss, palpitations and difficulty breathing, Pitta and Vata could also play a role. Here’s a few recommendations to address this imbalance and try to bring some relief:

1. Diet: Emphasize a Pitta-Kapha pacifying diet. Avoid spicy, oily and heavy foods which can further aggravate your symptoms. Instead, focus on light, warm meals such as vegetable soups, khichadi, and lots of leafy greens. Cucumbers and melons could be soothing, but watch out for raw salads if they increase your symptoms.

2. Ginger-licorice tea might help soothe the throat and clear congestion. Prepare by boiling a slice of fresh ginger and a small piece of licorice root in water. Sip this throughout the day, but in moderation, as excessive intake can lead to an increase in Kapha.

3. Pranayama and breathing exercises: When your breathing allows, practice gentle pranayama like Anulom Vilom and Ujjayi breathing to help expand your airways and restore calm to your system. Proceed with caution, and pause if you notice discomfort.

4. Oil Pulling: Practicing oil pulling with coconut oil can not only benefit oral hygiene but also reduce inflammation in oral pathways. Swish a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 10-15 mins and then spit it out, rinse well. Avoid swallowing the oil.

Given your condition and the severity of your symptoms, it’s crucial to maintain close contact with your primary healthcare provider or a specialized physician to monitor your condition. Ayurvedic measures can complement but should not replace conventional treatments, especially when serious symptoms like breathing difficulties occur. Be sure to listen to your body and adjust practices according to your comfort and professional guidance.
