I have severe cracked heels.kindly suggest remedy to soften heels and cure cracked heels. - #20937

Too much cracks in heels and also feet are very dry.too much tanning in both the foot.if I eat sugary items I get itching in the feet.kindly suggest remedy for cracked heels and also I can't eat any dishes made with sugar... sometimes ripen banana and fruits which are very sweet also causes itching in the feet...like chikoo,jackfruit,and also dishes prepared with sugar.

Cracked heels and dryness can be quite bothersome, and the fact that sugary foods, including fruits like bananas, cause itching, might indicates an imbalance or sensitivity that needs addressing. Let’s start with addressing the cracked heels and dryness first.

Firstly, soaking your feet can be really beneficial. Try a warm foot soak for about 15-20 minutes. Add a bit of Epsom salt and few drops of sesame oil to the water, this can help to soften the skin. Make sure to do this in the evenings, perhaps thrice a week. After soaking, gently exfoliate the heels with a pumice stone or a foot file - just be gently, don’t overdo it. Once dry, apply a rich foot cream or ghee (clarified butter), which is excellent for moisturizing.

It’s also vital to keep your feet protected and moisturized during the day. Wearing cotton socks can help retain moisture and protect from further cracking - consider applying a foot cream or oil before putting them on.

As for diet, the itchiness suggests that there might be an imbalance with your Kapha dosha, wherein excess sugar could be aggravating this. It might be helpful to avoid overly sweet foods, both in natural and processed forms, for some time. Opt for a diet high in whole grains, vegetables, and legumes. Focus on foods that are bitter, astringent, and pungent in taste which balance Kapha.

Herbs like turmeric could be helpful due to its anti-inflammatory properties - consider adding a bit of turmeric to warm milk or water once a day.

Hydration is crucial, too. Often dry skin is a symptom of dehydration, so aim for regular intake of warm water throughout the day.

Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces as this can worsen the dryness and cracking. Regularly practice Padabhyanga - which is a foot massage, using warm sesame oil, especially before bed, as it can nourish and improve circulation.

Keep monitoring the situation. Persistent itching, despite dietary changes, may require further consultation for a tailored ayurvedic treatment.
