Dry throat, dry eyes, itching on my whole body as well as Acid reflux - #23056

Mona Sharma

FirstlyI face this problem of dry eyes in nov 2023,then next month suddenly one day i felt my throat is dry from one side with alot of burps. Then,I went to an ENT doctor, and he said u are facing GERD issue and gave me medicine for controlling acid reflux but it didn't worked out. Then,I went to a Govt hospital and the doctors said we need to check whether you are ANA positive or not because you have similar symptoms related with Sjogren syndrome(an autoimmune disease) which includes dry eyes and dry throat. AlsoI felt least saliva flow in my mouth. After 2 days my ANA test were positive. Then they taught me to treat my disease under the observation of rheumatologist. After 1,2months of treatment i decided to take ayurvedictreatment from Doctor Sharda Ayurveda ludhiana for approximately 10months and I feel almost fine and cure. Also my ANA was no more positive but the treatment was for 1 year approx. I stopped taking treatment after 10months for some reasons in the month of March and i feel good just like before then in the end of March i feel itching on my face as well as redness on cheeks with rashes. This incresed day by day and in the month of May itching started on my legs and arms then on my whole body with rashes and still I am facing this issue.Another thing that I feel again is Dry throat from one side with burps. Sometimes feels less saliva flow as well as little bit burning in one corner of left eye. What should I do??

आयु: 26
पुरानी बीमारियाँ: My ANA is negative now

Your situation seems quite complex given the history of autoimmune concerns, GERD symptoms, and persistent dryness and itching. In Ayurveda, such symptoms often reflect a imbalance of the doshas, potentially involving excess Pitta and possibly Vata disturbances. You’ve had positive experiences with Ayurveda in the past, so let’s discuss some practical steps you can take.

Firstly, focus on your diet – it plays a crucial role in managing Pitta and Vata imbalances. Stick to a Pitta-pacifying diet, which includes cooling, calming foods like cucumbers, melons, sweet fruits, and bitter greens. Avoid spicy, sour, or salty foods that could aggravate these doshas. Try to include ghee in your diet, as it helps to ease dryness internally. Drink aloe vera juice; its cooling properties can help soothe internal heat.

Hydration is essential too, sipping room temperature water throughout the day. Infuse water with fennel seeds to aid digestion which further contributes to balancing pitta and reduces burping and acidity.

For your dry eyes and itchiness, applying a blend of rose water and castor oil (in small amounts) around your eyes may offer some relief. Always ensure these are of good quality, preferably organic. To calm itching and heal rashes, you might try applying a paste of sandalwood and turmeric. It’s soothing and supports the skin’s healing process.

Also, focus on daily self-massage (abhyanga) with warm sesame oil – it helps in moisturizing the skin and pacifying Vata dosha. A routine of meditation or pranayama (breathing exercises) can calm your nervous system and are particularly effective when dealing with autoimmune-related stress.

Nevertheless, given your past diagnosis with Sjogren’s Syndrome and ANA positivity, maintain regular consultation with a healthcare professional. It’s crucial to work closely with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner who can offer personalized treatment, but also listen to your rheumatologist’s advice for the autoimmune aspect.

If symptoms persist or worsen, especially the dryness or burping, seek professional medical advice promptly to rule out any complications that may need immediate attention. Safety and health should always come first in any treatment plan.
