how to use triphala churna - #23459

Christopher

I am really confused about how to use triphala churna. So, a couple of weeks ago, I started feeling really bloated and sluggish. Tried all sorts of things, like changing my diet and drinking more water but nothing really helped. My friend recommended triphala churna, said it worked wonders for her digestion. I bought some, but I’m not sure if I’m taking it right. Do I just mix it with water? Or should I take it with honey? And how much am I supposed to use every day? I’ve read so many different things online! Some say take it at night, others say morning. And what about with food? Can I eat right after? It feels a bit overwhelming, honestly!! Also, any tips on importance of consistency? I don't want to mess this up because I’m really desperate to feel better. Just trying to figure out how to use triphala churna the right way! Thanks!

It sounds like you’re dealing with quite a bit of confusion, which is understandable given the varying advice online. Let’s clear this up, so you can confidently use triphala churna for your digestive concerns.

Firstly, triphala churna is a powerful blend of three fruits: Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. It’s known in Ayurveda for its ability to support digestion and detoxification. The way you consume it can actually depend on your dosha and specific symptoms, but let me give you a general guideline.

For improving digestion and reducing bloating, consume triphala churna at night before bed. Take around half to one teaspoon mixed in a glass of warm water—this helps in cleansing and supporting regular bowel movements by morning. If you find the taste too bitter, you can add a little bit of honey after mixing it with water.

It’s typically suggested not to eat immediately after taking triphala. Let your body digest it first; wait at least 30 minutes before consuming any food. This period gives triphala the time to work on your digestive system without any interference.

Consistency is indeed key—triphala works best when you take it regularly. Make it part of your nightly routine to maximize its benefits, and be patient; you might not notice changes overnight, but gradual, consistent use often leads to the best results.

Sometimes, it’s beneficial to take triphala on an empty stomach, which is why nighttime can be optimal. If you choose to take it in the morning, do so upon waking up and at least 30 minutes before your breakfast.

One more thing—if your bloating doesn’t improve, or if you experience any discomfort, it’s worth consulting with an Ayurvedic practitioner to tailor the approach more closely to your constitution and symptoms or to rule out any underlying concerns. Remember, Ayurveda emphasizes balance, so moderation and listening to your body’s response are crucial.
